My bilge keel Sadler 26 has a slight but definite list to starboard. Although this doesn't affect the performance in any discernible way, it sure doesn't look nice to my fussy eyes. Nothing unusually heavy is stowed on that side so I have no idea what is causing it. Would it be possible to add some weight to the port keel to bring the boat level? When a 9-stone adult sits on the port cockpit seat the boat sits perfectly upright so that's the sort of weight we're talking about.

one keel may have cracked and taking on water, or one may have lost ballast, would recomend hauling and looking.

Check with another Sadler owner first.

Many boats do this for all sorts of reasons, from asymmetry to building too much heavy stuff on one side. Can you try to keep one water tank full - the other to be the 'in-use'?

Where are your water tanks? Are they full? The weight is about right to balance with 9 st...

My 26' Mirage has a similar characteristic. Not really noticable unless you know it's there; a very, very slight list to starboard. Nothing wrong with the keels as far as the naked eye can tell and nothing unusually heavy fitted internally.

Thanks for replies. Batteries on port side. Mast not off centre. Water tank centrally placed under cockpit sole. I'm stumped.

is the 26 not like the 29 and 34 with foam between skins? probably not or you wouldnt have asked the question.

has the female crew got her handbag on one side of the boat? or is the owners beer supply unevenly distributed? maybe its the sea that isnt flat ( apparently the med does slope downward from gib to port said)

ho hum. its sunday, there's no bike racing on tv. its raining, the boats out of the water. looks like the tax return this afternoon!

i know what you mean,
i have a hunter 272 with the same problem, she has a port list, and fuel tank and locker both on port side so cant do anything about it.
it is also only a tiny lean and barely noticeable but it does get on my nerves tho

My Jouet 680 had a very definite list to Port. I have redistributed the boat.
Water tank now central. Fuel tank to Starboard, balanced by Gas bottle to port
Batteries to port, all safety kit, tools and spares, charts etc and beer/wine to starboard
Galley to port, most provisions to starboard.
Heads to Port (Porta Potti) Clothes to Starboard.
It took a while, and I was surprised how little ballast needed to be moved to get a 1 Degree effect.
I still sail badly on one tack, but thats me ( I sail all boats with a starboard tack bias?!!?)
