Thanks

Have anchored in Scala Loutra Lesbos for a month. Just in front of the old olive oil / soap factory, now a hotel. Absolute safe back in 2005. Now with the many Turkish/ Kurdish refugees ?????

We wandered round the marina in Mytilini a few weeks ago and spoke to a couple of people who were staying there for a few days. It looks pretty well protected, electricity and water at all berths that we could see. The chandlery is getting going slowly and the management are in place. The ferry to Athens is about a ten minute walk along the front away.

We berthed in Mytilini marina a few years ago, perfect shelter. It was free then but I believe is now being managed with a fee.

This year we spent about a week in Moudhros, which we liked very much. The harbour has been extended to provide berthing for yachts. The entry is rather shallow, just about 2 metres, but there is plenty of depth once inside. Most yachts lay alongside the new pontoon when we were there, space for about six like this. Unfortunately this is right in line with the entrance to the NW, which would no doubt allow some waves to enter in the meltemi. Winds were mostly southerly when we were there. We went further in, against the wall adjacent to the childrens' playground. Fishing boats use this part but they were very accommodating and did not object to our presence.

Looks like the Marina at Lesbos is the place to leave the boat for a few weeks
Moudros is on Limnos I think ?
So ... Next question - which do you prefer Lesbos or Limnos ?

We think Lesvos is superb, especially inland. Well worth hiring a car (roads pretty poor though) Both inland seas are attractive. As mentioned above, Skala Loutra is a great anchorage with a bus stop right where you land the dinghy. The anchorage at Mersinia is well worth visiting. Sigri is very well sheltered in the meltemi, we spent a week there a few years ago. This year the wind was southerly, the bay to the south of the town providing good shelter. We also visited two small ports on the north of the island, quiet but nice.

But Moudros (Limnos) is something special, partly because of the strong links to the Gallipolli campaign but also, in a country where most people are friendly, Moudros seemed especially so.

Thanks for all comments.
I have been in touch with the marina at Mytilini and their 2 for 1 offer is on until end of this year so you can book 2 years for price of 1.

"From the beginning of this January, Setur Marina Mytilini is implementing a special discount package of 50% that
gives you the opportunity to stay for two (2) days at the price of one (1), 18 months at the price of 9, 24 months
(2 years )at the price of 12 months (1 year).
This campaign will end the 31st of december 2013
so you can make reservations till then."

If I didnt have a contract for this winter, I'd be tempted.
Rgds
