Agreed. I have a lot of difficulty with the pack mentality on here sometimes. Yes everyone is entitled to an opinion but Dylan has been a worthwhile contributor on here on a whole range of topics for more years than I can remember. OK so he's trying to make a buck to fund the journey but I certainly don't have a problem with that and struggle to see why anyone would. I don't watch the films per se but have seen a couple and really enjoyed the real time updates from harmony's trip up the east coast that he posted almost as much as TCM's panama canal transit.

I agree with you about the benefits of Dylan and his contributions. However I disagree with his methods to raise money. He is not poor, to set out with a strategy why he had no choice but to sell his boat, then use this to influence tappers. It has in some peoples opinion over stepped the mark and is offensive. There are other factors I considered at the same time.

I note the strategy has shall we say been scaled down. Good job it did Dylan no favours long term.

I would certainly be unfortunate if you read that into my posts. I have been a guest on Katie L, enjoyed Dylan's company and will very happily welcome him as a guest on my boat.

Pretty much all the podcasts I regularly listen to include requests for donations and of the two that don't one directly charges for content and one is BBC funded.

Dylan's "free with regular prompting for donations" model is typical AFAICT.

To be honest I'm not a great follower of Dylan....not for any other reason than I find him a bit of a"complicated" character, however , having read this thread I thought I'd look at some of his you tube films . In the very first film I was accused of being a "freeloader " for viewing without coughing up for the privilege. Not very welcoming for a first time viewer Did I watch it or indeed any others ? ....not on your life !!
