Lily M sold @ £8k - one week into the Dutch auction

I must confess to being a bit of a fan of Dylan's films and have no problem with tapping from time to time. As a relative novice in sailing terms I really enjoyed the sailing content of all of the earlier films and continue to watch everything that Dylan produces however ! I must confess that with the later films I find there is far more travelogue content than actual sailing which is not what I started watching them for. I am sure that a great many of his followers will love this aspect of the films but to me it is the sailing content that really rocks my boat. I truly hope that the KTL venture does not remain grounded.

I have also been a bit of a fan of Dylan but ,with regret, I feel that Dylan has done himself a disservice with his recent rant about how unfair it is that his viewers don't pay enough for him to fulfil his sailing expectations.
I would have thought he would realise it is unhelpful to his business to rubbish his customers or potential customers. It is a bit like the Ebay sellers who end their advert with the words "no time wasters please". Can you imagine John Lewis or M and S putting a sign in their shop window with that on it? Can you imagine them making their customers feel guilty for not paying enough into their coffers?
His answer is simple. If the business model is not working for him he needs to devise one that does or pack up. Instead of that he has resorted to a kind of long public moan, mixed with threats of strike action.
As someone who has supported him for some years with 'taps' I am now moving to more interesting sailing websites, some of which actually produce new material at frequent and regular intervals, unlike the Dylan of recent times.

I am new to this...but do you mean websites with bikinis & boobs; or give examples?

Bikinis and boobs........No, not really although I am not prudish. I remember looking at La Vagabond some years ago when they started but somehow lost interest. It is probably too soon to single out good sites yet as I have only recently started looking again but I must say there are some good ones out there. The one I found last week is called Sail Life and he seems to produce a new video every week or so and the few I have watched have been interesting to me but everyone has their own angle on what is interesting.

15 the 18 items in "Latest Blogs and Videos" section of the KTL home page (which is most of it) are links to messages sent with donations, presumably to solicit more money.

Most of the rest of the front page is further requests for money. I am not sure that putting all this before any actual content - which is now quite hard to find - is a good idea. It looks rather grasping. Most sensible buskers[1] pass the hat round after performing, not before.

Speaking for myself, I don't watch the Delos/Vagabonde stuff for boobs and bikinis, the sailing those two crews enjoy is in the tropics and quite naturally the crews aren't going to be dressed in several layers of Mustos. So the boobs and bikinis are a fairly natural by product (one i enjoy) of sailing in hot climates in clear sea with beautiful beaches and sparkling blue sea and in areas I can only dream of sailing and on boats i can only dream of owning.

Whereas Dylans films are about the type of cruising i can already achieve for myself so other than a passing interest, i cant see the point of me paying to watch Dylans sailing adventures. Thats the difference for me.

Yes I saw the content you mention. I think that was the last straw for me.

Dutch auction went well. I'm impressed enough to try it myself! (newer boat will oust our Sunrise 35)
Hope you find what you fancy!

So what Mr JumbleDuck !!! The fellah makes some cracking films that I and many others have enjoyed and good luck to him if he can finance the film making and sailing by doing so. It would seem that you are going to a lot of trouble scouring through the KTL films to drum up your complaints and rudeness. I realize that I am a relatively new member to this forum and do not have your esteemed history but I really think you must have a little more to fill your days than a continued put down of DW. Get a life.

Well said.
I wish it wasn't proving so difficult. If 12,000 people enjoy his films they could all chip in a quid a year and it would be happy days. I personally thought that the requests for donations were made in a tongue in cheek manner that fits with the generally curmudgeonly demeanour that we have come to expect of Mr D.
There seems to be an unwritten rule that anybody who asks for anything must become a forum pariah. Sometimes I feel quite ashamed to be part of this 'community'.

I think most people like Dylans character and wish to see him continue. However I'm a believer that if you have something to sell, sell it. also If someone says they have no funds left/the pot empty to increase taps, in an aggressive manner, they should be skint. otherwise it could be said they are providing misleading information to extract money. and we know what that is called.

Currently Dylan and his boss have decided to bang the poor mans drum in order to raise revenue. Personally I don't find it tongue in cheek at all. Dylan has had a huge amount of advice and quite frankly he has not taken a single piece of that advice. Most notably, on his blogg, his followers who are Tapping, offered to design a Burgee to raise funds for KTL. Instantly he told them no no, Taps only please.
Nothing wrong with marketing a product, but just make sure the info to obtain the money is correct.
