Intriguing. I've had a brief look at flight paths though, and on one tiny scale map I found some similarities in the same region.

Fascinating discussion. The argument is whether the increase is real or just due to greater reporting in shipping lanes. I loved the neologism 'dataporn'.

Yet another one using likelihood the other is may. Anyone who has studied statistics knows that correlation does not imply causality. The press is littered with such nonsense articles often medical.

The lightning enhancement maximizes along the same angular paths ships take along these routes and cannot be explained by meteorological factors, such as winds or the temperature structure of the atmosphere.
