Lift keeler 26\'-28\' to take the ground

I'm looking for a lifting keeler - which I want occasionally to dry out on sand. Will be kept on a non drying mooring. Which of these will be ok to dry out on a 'hard sand'? I think some will. + are there any others around 25-28ft.

Jeanneau Fantasia 27
Gibsea 272
Dufour 2800
Jouet 820

Bit of a French flavour there!

Try these - better sea-boats than the ones you've listed.

Seal 28 - designer Angus Primrose, builder John Baker

Super Seal - Parker 26 - originally built by John Baker and then taken over by Bill Parker, still being made as the Parker 27.

Parker 275, but avoid the 's' version as the aft berth is cross ways and (allegedly) not as seaworthy. The boat sails well, is well designed and comfortable for 2, but gets a bit cramped with more adults on board, despite being officially 6 berth.

I'm not sure that some of the ones you mentioned will take the ground successfully and comfortably. To do that you'll need a design that will sit upright and I don't think the Jeanneau or the Dufour will do that . They've got stub keels and a central rudder which means they'll fall over and you'll have an uncomfortable night. A couple of French designs that will stay upright are the Kelt 850 and the First 285. A couple of British designs to look at are the Parker 26/275 and if you're not that concerned about performance the smallest of the Southerly range.

Mike,
Why waste your time with this modern junk.
Get a Fairey Marine Atalanta.
AND I just happen to have one for sale - epoxied all over so it won't need any more maintenance than the GRP stuff.

I can vouch for the Kelt 850, ours is kept on a drying mooring at Barmouth.
Goes like a train and so far has dealt with any heavy weather that we have had the misfortune to be caught out in.

Bit silly replying this late but you may have spent as long as we did getting the "perfect boat"! We were looking for the same thing & found the stub keel issue e.g. on fantasia etc. also. Ended up with a Gibsea 262 (is the 272 a newer variant?). Initial impressions good, tardis like & well built, seems to sail well but yet to find out about rough stuff.

Key point for us was that it sits flat on an 9ftx3ft oval iron casting when dry. The 4ft ally centreboard swings down through a slot in it - very practical.

Regards

Chris
