Hi Guys.

Just a quickie !

What is the service interval for valise type liferafts? Thinking of buying a secondhand one

As always many thanks for any replies.

normally 3/4 years... depends on the dates of the stuff in side.. ie... flares... seasick pills etc.... had a few quotes recently... service is £110 + VAT + the bits that need replacing.... so about £200 - £250

Up to the manufacturer, but typically 3 years if vacuum packed, annually if not (rare nowadays). For a coded boat the regs also demand annually for a valise raft.

I recently bought a secondhand (but unused) Seago 4-man valise. I don't know how, but it was very cheap (on eBay - only a couple of bidders) and so I am very pleased with the purchase. However, and I knew this, the service could be £250 - £260. My fee was £260. That includes everything, new flares, seasic tabs, gas canister and so on.

So do be aware that if you buy a secondhand one for more than a couple of hundred pounds, you may as well really buy a new one (for about £560) and not have it serviced for three years or so.
