Yes, there's a fair amount of space in between the upper steering position and the after (survivors) cabin on the Tyne class......in the photo the angle hides this but there are about 1/2 a dozen crew stood there so this gives you an idea of how much there is.
On the other hand, on the Mersey class, which we have, there is very little room. However, though more is better, very little is needed, sufficient to lay a stretcher down and for a man to stand.
Of course on the newer designs (Tamar and FCB2) there is far more room and this is far better.
