My son's fiance finds the present life jacket we have for her rather uncomfortable, particularly the fact that it does not have a proper collar. Can anybody suggest a life jacket that's comfortable for ladies, we are hoping to pick one up at SBS.

Many Thanks

Rick

You sure she isn't wearing a bouyancy aid?
What LJ's don't have a collar?

I treated myself to the Spinlock Deckvest when looking for the best ladies' fit and find it far more comfortable than my previous 'standard' lifejacket.

Rick if at SBS there might be a stand for Seasafe of Cowes . I recall one year they were in a tent near the pBO Dave sailfish boat and very helpful . My daughter tried on at show and ordered one with attractive cover and personalisation which might appeal as it means it doesn't get mixed up with others on board etc The website doesn't really show the choice of covers clearly but one page towards end shows available covers etc . I am sure those by Kru and Spinlock etc all worth looking at though as having played this game at SBS it does all turn on personal shape etc I believe .

Really the lady in question should be trying on the life jackets and making her choice. We are all different shapes and what you find comfortable others will not.

+1 - a few years ago I found myself at SIBS in a group of about 4 or 5 people who were trying to find the most comfortable LJ - different shapes, sizes, ages and genders (and races just to tick all the diversity boxes). Intriguingly, shortish, stocky and fat me chose a Kru as did a tall slim Dutch Lady. Her even taller but not quite a slim husband chose a spinlock as did the short but voluptuous partner of a small slim gentleman who had a Secumar he had every intention of keeping he assured us.

Obviously we aim for her to try them on. I was just trying to get a few pointers as to where to start, and one that feels OK a first my become less so after a few hours, hence wanting to tap into the experience of others.

Many thanks for the comments.

Rick

My First Mate really likes her Spinlock (can't remember model name), and finds it much more comfortable than the previous more traditionally, shaped LJ she had. The leg straps are a bit fiddly to put on. Her LJ is much less prone to getting hooked up on coaming cleats, etc. than my older styled one is (though my being taller might also be a factor).

I replaced my LJ about a year ago, and now regret not splashing out on something more sophisticated/comfortable like the Spinlock or Kru.

I like my spinlock deck vest a lot. Some other makes are so short so the ‘waistband’ actually tightens round the boobs (not comfy). The spinlock is adjustable ‘vertically,at the back, and the main part at the front comes down like a deep v neck instead of straight down over the boobs. The leg straps are rubbish, really poorly designed but I’ve modified mine and got rid of the thigh encircling bits (that used to slip down when you sat then stayed too low when you stood up! )so they’re usable now. I found it comfortable enough to wear on bare skin ( or with a bikini top?) as well as over layers of clothes- easily adjustable

What's the problem with your LJ?
