Just got my first "early bird" invitation to LIBS and couldn't see thats Fairline was listed as an exhibitor yet - I guess for obvious reasons.

There was some debate a while ago as to whether LIBS had much life left in it and so I couldn't help thinking that, on a best case scenario that Fairline are in a transition phase, whether the public would be so keen to attend with one of the three main (mobo) pillars of the show not exhibiting.....

Coincidently, I’ve just booked flights to Boot Düsseldorf for next January. I hope the London event goes well as I used to like going to LIBS and wonder how the two shows will compare.

me and swimbo are thinking of coming this next one ,first time so can you give me some tips .ie where is it held ,we will be co,ming by train scared of driving in the south to far for the boat so can i get a hotel for say £120 which is the less busy day etc cheers ,roy yes i know we always beat chelsea

It is not easy to get a hotel in central London for £120 a night, but I believe there are more sensible prices further east for the Excell Centre. Some of us from this forum meet up late afternoon on the Thursday (not sure of the date yet, but I'm sure it is on the web site) when it is a late closing day, and some of the bigger manufacturers put music, drinks and canapés out.

I got 2 night at Ibis Excel on first weekend for £130 I sometimes use the Ibis at Blackwall if others are full or silly price, it's only a couple of stops on the DLR and parking is easy.

In size terms there's no comparison. Boot is way bigger than LIBS, although like all recent boat shows it has suffered a bit from a reduction in the number of exhibitors bringing boats to the show. Even so there are far more boats and other types of nautical stuff to look at than at LIBS. Best to go with a plan of which stands you really want to see and a map otherwise its easy to get lost and miss whole halls out!

so can you give me a clue how to book a viewing to see a specific model ,as i emailed a supplier who said they were showing at the show and have not replied.so do i contact the manufacturer ,who are french any help would be nice .thanks roy

Don't bother pre booking because like as not the boat you want to see will be full at the time you've booked to arrive. Nobody is going to turn away visitors on the off chance you arrive when you say you will! Choose a quiet day to go, say a midweek morning, and very likely you'll be able to get on to every boat you want to see. Even if you can't get on to a particular boat at the time you arrive on the stand, you can arrange to come back an hour later or whatever and go and see something else

Contact the UK dealer, he will make sure that you see the boat and get what you are seeking.

By contacting him in advance you are demonstrating interest above the casual looker on show days.

Dusseldorf every time for me

London is now pathetic dont know why they bother, the german show is awsome totaly organised and you can look on any boat you wish to without some guy in a blue blazer looking down his nose at you.
So much choice with manufacturers.
One hour flight and fifteen minute taxi ride the other end.

So freddy hop over to Dusseldorf .

Sad that you are happy to decry the British event and praise the German one.:ambivalence:

A German wouldn't do that.

It is not a case of decrying the event, if i want to see garden furniture i will go to a garden centre, i go to a boat show to look at a selection of boats of all shapes and sizes, unfotunatly London does not provide this.
The UK builders seem to have lost their way what happened to the entry level boats that got people on the boating ladder 26 28 32 and so on it would seem the entry level in the eyes of most builders is 45ft, unfortunatly not that many people walking around with 4-500k in their pocket.
So i will go to Germany to view the vast array and selection of boats on offer also i am going with a view to purchase.

So the London show doesn't float your boat, still no reason to run it down.

A great many people enjoy it and go year after year and like the show dates. (Winter blues)

If the UK shows all close down we would really have something to moan about.

Anyway, I hope you find what you are looking for and enjoy using it.:encouragement:

In my experience, there are usually many boats sub 30', all forms of boating, and easy to access at LIBS.

Dusseldorf every time for me
I went to LBS last January. I thought the Fairline stand and the staff were most excellent. Helped a colleague spend loads of money on a new engine. I oredered a bunch of timber from Robbins.
However, I can't help thinking I should go to Dusseldorf at least once. So I started investigating the idea last night. EasyJet outbound on Friday night from Gatwick. Back Sunday evening. Cheap enough.
(No flights with Easyjet on Saturday.) However, I couldn't really get a grip on where best to book a hotel. Any suggestions?

And be sure to ask for free tickets. All exibitors have them.
