London Boat (Motor) Show

I was there this last Monday having travelled especially from the Channel Islands.
I have to say this was probably the worst yet. Disappointing number of boats on display and large gaps in the display areas now taken up by a whole load of cars - mainly of the ''Supercar'' variety.
Hardly any people there and a general feeling of gloom.
With the rather torturous transport arrangements even getting there this will be the last time I bother.
Roll on the Southampton Show!

Just got back

Must admit - enjoyed it. But the Boat Show bit seemed very quiet compared to the outdoor show and bike show - they were really rammed with people.

Best buy - 4 special adjustable spanners for 40 quid - the Kiwi chap selling them was very persuasive and had loads of anti-aussie jokes. No idea if the spanners worked but the demo was vey impressive

-Oh and a new roll top wet bag 60 Litres for 30 quid with detachable ruck sack type straps

Boats - look out for the new Colchester!!!! built Gunfleet 43 - liked the interior very much though the exterior looked a bit strange and not to my taste - about half a million quid.

Enjoy your day there

First time in many years that I have not been to the London Boat Show, everyone I have seen has been disappointed with the show, I think the show may have one more year but its days must be numbered. The Southampton show has to be the only big show in the UK. Been told the London Boat Show is more like a trade show!

Who am I kidding - 6 hours or so spent wandering around the world's biggest chandlery with some boats to look at too, plus a guiness bar and some demos - what's not to like? Also got some good (I think) advice about a cruising shute for the boat and about marine electronics that I might have got from a local firm but would have had to make a separate trip.

We had a great time, though having a 1 year old and 3 year old along made for a different kind of experience. Managed to get some but not enough time talking to electronics and liferaft people (aided by lots of snacks to keep kids quiet, and Chris and Anne babysitting a bit). AJ thought it was the best day out ever..... he loved the pool with skateboarding (wakeboarding), loved climbing in and out of boats and generally having fun. Full marks to the RYA lounge who couldn't have been more helpful with the kids. Not sure where all the time went.
