LIBS - Never Again!

Re: LIBS - another thing

We used to visit the Earls Court show by coach with our club on preview day. This year the travelling time meant the coach was predicted to arrive later and was also planning to leave earlier, in order to arrive back at the club at the same time for the usual show trip dinner. The cost for the trip was higher than before and the time at the show significantly shorter, not a good deal IMO so we decided not to go. In the event it proved a wise decision as the coach broke down on the way, I believe they spent more time on the coach than at the show! I am well aware (so did not need to go to find out) of the trip from Poole to ExCel, I have customers nearby and make that trip often enough by car.

I am well aware the move will suit many from North and East of London especially, but for me as I said I will stick to SBS, as many of my local friends have said also.

My other comment was merely to illustrate the different interests of the organisers (maximum bums through the doors) versus the exhibitors (maximum number of potential buyers) - the two are not the same.

We enjoyed it

My family, well SWMBO and her 10 year old daughter, really enjoyed the inland waterways feature. Those narrow boats with leather settees - brilliant. We found the food reasonable value for money and good quality. It was busy in the chandlery area, but not impossible, and whilst there weren't as many yachts as we had thought there might be, it was still a good show. We went the first Saturday, came through the centre of town from the M4 and were in the car park at 10:30. The whole thing was painless. We will be going next year.

I have to say that I've made SWMBO promise to cut my legs off if I ever suggest going again. Despite the crowds and apparent lack of road signs (I did not find this an issue) fetting there and moving around was not a problem last Saturday.

However I really felt that many of the smaller more interesting companies did not attend - is this a stand pricing issue - and this detracted from the show. Sure there were lots of boats and the Indland Waterways stand was good, but something was missing from the previous years at Earls Court.

Roll on SIBS - a much better show all round!

For the first time ever I drove. I used the car park near the airport ( which was interesting) and nearly collapsed when they told me that the cost was only a fiver all day. Plus a free bus ride.

I managed to ponce a free ticket from an exhibitor a friend works for. On the way, close to home, I called into a bakers shop and got my flask filled up and a load of rolls and cakes for about a fiver.

I went on the late night Thursday and felt less pressure to get back home because of the car. I think this made it more enjoyable. It sounds like Saturday was just too crowded which must have spoiled things a bit.

For me, the best and cheapest show I’ve been to.

Regards,

Re: Essex boatshow weekends were hell

"she supplied the pool that was used for the windsurfing" So why did it burst and deposit 250,000 gallons of good water into the dirty Thames?

There were actually more exhibitors this year than before, which included many new, small companies. There must, inevitably, have been some who did not attend this year for any number of reasons but overall I think you have the wrong impression.

Re: LIBS - another thing

I am interested that you have a good journey up from Somerset. I had a chap buttonhole me on the stand who was outraged at how difficult it had been from the same area.

Can't say that we noticed the problems getting to the show. It was less than an 3/4 hour in the Berthon Company Learjet from Southampton Airport to London City and then a quick 5 minute hop by helicopter to the show.

What's all the fuss about? My morning croissant barely had a chance to get cold.

Roll on next year!
