Been reading the posts re LIBS, and apart from about one they are all negative.
I'm glad now we decided not to exhibit this year.

Anyone have a spiffing time at the show and bought a boat maybe ??? come on there must be someone???

Re: LIBS lots of negativity

We went on Saturday. Drove there with no delays apart from a few minutes getting into the car park cos they made it pay on entry. System broken! (like it was last year as well)
Walked straight in with pre-pad tickets.
Seemed a bit more busy than last year but not too crowded. 2/3 hrs in south hall chatting to various manufacturers. No bad attitudes from any!!! All good. Well only went to Sealine, Fairline, Rodman and Beneteau. New Fairline 48 is great.
New extended Guinness bar is great with lots more space.
Didnt seem so may swindleries about so not so much to mooch over there.
The demonstrations were a bit of fun.
Didnt see nearly as much as we wanted to.
Excellent day.

We loved it , but then we did get to see our new V45 all finished for the first time. I have to say other than that there wasn't much else going on.

We had an excellent time on Saturday, there from 9:30 to 6pm and still didn't see everything we wanted to, the demonstrations and talks were interesting and the Volvo engine race was a bit of fun.

Daniel.

I m going Thursday, and am looking forward to it. Personally, I m not nostalgic about Earls Court-chaotic with lousy services. Maybe some find the layout at Excel a bit hygienic and sterile, but its alot easir to get about and find the boats.
If it doesnt continue, I wonder if some who are happy to moan will then complain!
Anyway, I am going to enjoy myself.

I enjoyed the show as I did last year also. One complaint, not a lot of small (4 berth 25 - 30 ft) cruisers that came into the affordable bracket for me. Did like the Doral and Bayliners though, a bit more of a realistic target for my budget. Didn't bother with the Sunseeker and Fairline stands this year apart from ogling the dolly birds on it. You could spot the guys with money all in their late 50's early 60's walking around with young dolly birds half their age draped in fur and gold (no offence, I'm just jealous).

Was with a few yachties so had a look around some of these. Treated with the usual contempt by most sales people on the stands with the exception of Bill McKay on the Elan yachts stand who was as accommodating and friendly as ever (helps when you come from the same town), also incredibly knowledgeable. Andy on the Doral stand was good too.

Fog tunnel, anchor demo and engine race certainly didn't live up to the hype and could have done with a few more chandleries too. Didn't actually find anything that I couldn't buy cheaper elsewhere.

Noticed the Stansted express ticket price had gone up £7 from when I was last down in London on business in October. Also thought I was being robbed at £3.50 per pint in Guinness tent but that just seemed to be standard London prices judging by beer costs in local pubs.

Nevertheless I thoroughly enjoyed the day and will no doubt be back next year.

Hi Clive.

After reading some of these threads.Thank God Im not the only one who enjoys the show.
I always thought the object of the show was to present new models, which in my opinion it does very well. I have no intention of buying a new boat whatsoever. only secondhand (let someone else suffer the depreciation) & always tell the sales staff from the start. Up to now this has not resulted in any negativity with most of my questions being answered.
I dont know what some people expect from the show to me it simply does what its supposed to. ie displays a large amount of different marque's & equipment under one roof with a bit of entertainment thrown in.
However there are some among us who if given a gold ingot on entry would complain it was to heavy to carry round......Nat

Re: LIBS lots of negativity

Still here MBM stand using their pute!
2nd day. Should have been strictly business but met a few Forumites on the Black stuff stand! Too much to do and too little time as usual.
Yesterday was spent mooching about+ bought some clothing at reasonable prices. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
First ExCel and first Boat show since London 5 years ago.
So for Me it has not been boring or dull, quite the opposite.

Speaking to Exhibitors, mixed response. Some well pleased some not so pleased.
Strange feeling, standing up typing.

Other best purchase bottle of Scotch 12 year old From Pultney /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I think they were called go go and collect before this place shuts.
Then accross to the Yacht Hotel for to sup it!
Yacht Hotel bit of a dissapointement. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Oh! someone wants this keyboard back. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Re: LIBS lots of negativity

Oh we were in the Sunbourn Yacht Hotel last year didnt find it too bad, breakfast was good, and rooms nice and warm. They needed to be as it was freezing mind you I'm used to Spanish sunshine. Did you see any motor seas schools exhibiting by the way, just curious

Re: LIBS lots of negativity

I popped in this evening on an after 4pm cheapie - really just wanted three quotes and got 'em. I didn't spend hours there obv but the Nth hall seemed very badly laid out - no ditch crawler corner like last year with thatched pub, just a packing-crate bar stuck in the middle of some odd boats. Small equipment / materials suppliers scattered all over the place. Were ADEC there? Couldn't find them. Nor Index Marine. Nor Jabsco - and I'm after a clutch pump. Seemed to be a few others either missing or not visible as well.

We had a good day on Saturday. I sometimes wonder what peoples expectations are...... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

We went on Monday and had a great time. Especially good hospitality on the Fairline stand (thanks Trevor) and an irritating experience at the Sealine stand with a poorly informed lass from Belfast trying to make me say "yes" to all her questions (I hate people who have just been on sales courses!). Couldn't wait to get away!
Azimut, Sunseeker, Princess all great and for some reason took to Guiness for the very first time.....downhill from here.

Re: LIBS lots of negativity

Further to My quickie from the MBM stand.
The Sunborn Yacht. On Monday morrning no hot water or heating!
Brekky lot,s of it and lots of choice I agree. However the bacon and scrambled eggs were tasteless. Day 2 ordered fried eggs that was better. Waited ages for coffe refill on one morning.
Just little touches like that spoilt it a bit. Great location though ie bought some stuff bunged it in the room than went back in empty handed, to see more of the Show. That bit was great.
As for training Schools, yes lots.
More than I have noticed before, mind You as I posted earlier some 5 years since My last Show visit. Many "Come and have a Holiday with us and we'll train you" Gigs.

Re: LIBS lots of negativity

Jabsco there for sure big style! Adec yes didn't notice Index.
After 4pm cheapie doesn't give You much time though.
Ripped the giude/map out of PBO to navigate. Better than fumbling with the Show Giude.
Tend to trot round the whole thing making mental notes for an hour. On occasions like this then head for the bits I want to visit for sure then the last hour or so ambling around petty aimlessley!
