Hi, I hope this is a simple question. I have lewmar 30s on my boat and I want to upgrade the to 40's. Can they be bolted in the same holes, and just swap the main body of the winch. Or will this require more drilling etc.

come on, it's a boat, nothing is simple, i'll bet you the bigger size needs yet more holes in your deck.

The chances are you will be able to use two, possible three of the holes with a bit of fiddling. I did exactly this when I fitted larger selftailers on my boat. Two holes lined up nicely, I fitted two bolts in these then drilled through the other three holes. I filled the redundant holes with plastic padding and used large thick penny washers under the nuts.

I agree. I changed from 30s to self tailing 30s. Only one hole matched. But when asked, Lewmar emailed me the appropriate drawing, so I could plan the task.

30 Standard winch has PCD 4.5", 5xm6

40 Standard winch has PCD 4.75", 5xm6

So holes won't align.

With ST winches PCD is same for same winch size, but holes don't align, only 2 do.
