Can anyone tell me how to do this? I've googled but not come back with anything definitive.

The hinge seems to be an aluminium or SS rod. Do I drift this out? Or do I unscrew the blocks the hinge is part of (although these might be riveted to the frame)

I had this problem earlier this season. Got a boatyard to do it, and they struggled. A massive amount of force was needed.

Why do manufacturers of marine gear still not grasp the fundamentals of metallurgy and mix up metals like this?

You can't remove the Hatch by removing the hinges as the frame is riveted to the hinge.

You need to remove the Stainless steel pins, there are 2 or 3 black banking plugs on the inside of the lid and you can access the end of the Stainless Steel pins and push them back out - they have plastic washers set into slots on the pins and you need to overcome them - and obviously stainless / alloy corrodes.

If you try to push them in from the outside then you will never get them out - don't ask how I found out !

How do you get the pins out? Do you put a screwdriver in the hole and lever them out, then grip the ends with some mole grips or similar?
Mine seem to have been put in with some sort of grease/paste.

That's exactly how I did it.
The paste will have been put in there to stop corrosion.

Yep as Cantata said - use a screwdriver to lever far enough to get molegrips on the exposed ends, try not to damage the hatch lid too much

I used "Tef Gel" when re-assembling - rather than Duralec as the "Tef Gel" doesn't dry out.

Try Lewmar 02392 471841 & ask for sales support etc, I found them very helpful recently.

- that may be an old number though as I'd asked Seateach chandlery at Emsworth at the time, but that's the number in my ageing book...

They supply all these spares for Lewmar and other hatches, I got a replacement Lewmar Ocean seal from them a little while ago, when I found it tricky they put me on to the very helpful Lewmar chap - sorry I have mislaid his direct details.

As a Plan B but helpful contact Seateach are at 01243 375774
