My forecabin hatch has developed a crack in the perspex, near one hinge.

Is it possible to 'reglaze' these hatches?

If so, DIY or specialist?

If specialist, any recommendations?

Standard Lewmar jobbie, smoked perspex.

Having problems with my new glasses - can't see anything on the Lewmar site about replaceable acrylic, but tracking through the Ocean range (which I believe mine must be) does uncover 'replacement lids', which sound like something for those who make their own marmalade. Seems a shame to have to buy frame, handles and hinges, as well as the perspex.

As well as being environmentally unfriendly when the only bit that goes is the perspex. Frankly it would have been a brain dead thing to have made the perspex easily replaceable wouldnt it? But no - we wish to charge you £400 pounds for a new 2ft square window otherwise you'll have to wrestle with our corroded nuts and bolts and our difficult to source seals - gotcha!!! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

A suggestion rather than a recommendation. Salford House Services specialise in this sort of thing . Located between Sevenoaks and Otford. 01732 464635

Ken

I used to have a good contact at Lewmar who told me they keep a stock of these panels. Sadly he's now left but why not try via Seateach Emsworth who stock the hatches (I replaced an identical hatch for £300 from them as it was leaking in several places)

Dave is very helpful - you might want to congrat him as he got married weekend before last! He knows most of the EBBs

edit - meant to say that the hatch is a Lewmar Ocean 60 if calling Dave

Dunno, I've replaced 2 of the Ocean 60 hatches but never the panel itself. Nowt worse than a leaking forehatch as you will know and on both occasions I've bit the bullet and put a new hatch in rather than suffer more wet bedding

Sad to report that the mounting holes are different on the newer models so there's a bit of fill & fair before re-drilling, maybe a job for Mark if you get stuck but talk to Dave first instance - lovely bloke and very helpful. It may be easier to fit a new panel?

Just don't mention Marks name when talking to him (long story!) but do send my regards

I reglazed mine 3 years ago and it hasn't leaked since - despite serious submarining in the Raz de Sein last year. I had a replacement panel cut by a local firm using the old as a pattern. Fitted it with Sikoflex and used the (very expensive) primers recommended for acrylic and aluminium. I also replaced the rubber seal at the same time - available as a Lewmar spare.

I reglazed 2 lewmar hatches at the end of last season. I removed the old acrylic and it was used by a local signmaker to cut an identical copy, inlcuding all the holes. I rebedded them on a non setting compound that is supplied on a roll, and sealed around the edge with black marine silicon.
I did two for about £100.00, though it probably wouldn't be much cheaper for one.

no leaks so far
