Lewmar electric winch not working

Lewmar 54 electric winch not working.
I can hear the motor running, but the winch barrel isn't turning.
Works OK as a manual winch.
Before I start taking it to bits, anyone got any idea what's failed?
Feels a bit like a shear pin?

The OP has correctly used "winch" rather than "windlass". I incorrectly assumed Lewmar "windlass".

As the winch works manually and the motor runs but does not drive, i'll put my money on a sheared key. This also fits in with your feeling of a sheer pin.

+1 but thats a hell of a key to shear.

I cant remember if the bottom of the motor gearbox permits a view of the shaft and sleeve that drives it. If it does than you can see if the problem is before/in or after the motor gearbox.
