here is the reply from the ARA from my recent email to them

-------------------------------------------------------------

12th July 2006

Dear Mr. Perkins,

Thank you for your email dated 5th July. As you are probably aware, the internet does offer the opportunity for people to publish ‘spoof’ or similar material. This website is clearly of this nature and is not the official site of Twickenham Rowing, and has no connection with any official club, committee or part of the ARA. Twickenham Rowing Club’s official site is www.twickenhamrc.net

The ARA, its regions and its clubs are very clear about the guidance they give to their members, and disciplinary action is initiated at club, regional and national level if rules are not followed.

Abusive language is certainly not allowed, and this has recently been the subject of discussion within our members magazine, Rowing & Regatta. However, in common with many other walks of life, rowers do on occasions use bad language, and we shall continue to make every effort to ensure that where this happens, we take appropriate action.

Rowers are also instructed through training and coaching, to respect the rights of other water users, and of course neither the ARA nor its clubs would condone the remarks made on the website about canoeists.

All rowing boats and coaches launches are required to carry identification, in the form of three letters and three numbers. This makes identification of rowers and their clubs quite simple. I would suggest that should you observe any bad behaviour by rowers in the future, you make note of the identification number, so that the matter can be dealt with by the club concerned.

I have sent a copy of our correspondence to Twickenham Rowing Club and to the Thames Regional Rowing Council.

Yours sincerely,

Rosemary E. Napp
National Manager

Here is my reply

Thank you for your response and attached letter which was very pleasing to recieve thank you

The content of my email to you although perhaps sounding off about your members was not entirely correct I am fully appreciative that they also have to endure anti social behaviour from other river users something which you will agree is also unacceptable.

I just hope that all river users in the spirit of their common ground can move forwards in a spirit of better cooperation

One point wich might be worth your attention and concern is the same website the undergroung twrc the URL is http://www.twrc.org/ is showing in the who is database as being the twickenham rowing clubgo to www.easily.co.uk search for twrc and the do a who is on the dot org

Yours graeme

your comments please and can we be sensible here as this is important stuff and shouldnt be treated otherwise

I've debated poor lookout, manners, and behaviour of rowers with high up people in the ARA. They all agree there's a big problem but say that nothing can be done.

Did chuckle as I saw one run into the bank on the Thames the other day - a result of completely failing to look where he was going. He got into a right muddle under the trees, but at least he may have learned a lesson.

It was pointed out to me in one of my rants recently that communication should be the best course of action and that i should talk to the robo peeps perhaps more of us should take this advice however difficult

just look chaps at the power of the internet a good response here from the ARA and hopefully more to come they are showing that what has been discussed is a concern which they are adressing to me this is a positive thing

Well talking is good if you say hello how are you don`t expect a response ignorance is bliss , i mean do i want to speak to mobos there thinking they just think we are lovely NOTTT

Maybe i should have explain my self a little better i am talking robos attituid towards mobos is not good at all they need to have lesson on social activitys they are SH 1 T

aw, come on, we've all gone off course when rowing our dinghies, why should a club rower not equally make similar mistakes.
