Just for information (but not helpful to the OP) the clamps for posts with additional studs I linked to and used are M8. The screw in terminals on AGMs like Red Flash and Odyssey are M6, but you can get SAE posts with M6 studs to screw in so that you can use clamp attachments for the cables. I needed these for the Red Flash in my Morgan.

I have never seen a battery with 2 different size threads but then I would never buy a Lucas battery.
I remember all the ones that went open circuit due to poor welding of the cell linking busbars
Best day was when Lucas closed all the factories in the UK and stopped making rubbish.

Lucas has nothing to do with this thread, the OP bought Exide.

Just because you have not seen different thread sizes on a battery doesn't mean they don't exist. I have fitted several and i carry both sizes of UNC nuts on the van.

Well I fully unpacked the New battery , and found the Nuts x 2 strapped to the side of the battery ; so for the mo I am happy but would prefer Wing Nuts , so sent a email to a local company who deal in Nuts n Bolts n Fasternings

Will try and find out the Nut /Thread type though

The Old replaced battery is still being charged ? but still showing 8 . 5 volts after 6 hrs ; so just maybe its damaged beyond repair ?

Edit: My partner has just shook her head and said "i don't know why you bother" :(

By the way, wing nuts are a terrible idea.

Agree use the nuts that came with the battery. Can't see any advantage in wing nuts. Assume you have a set of spanners or at least a good adjustable.

Yep good suggestions , will make sure of the Nut /Thread size and buy a few spares , just in case some end up in the Bilges or over the side

Well thank you Mr PR I have now ordered the Nuts , and delivery expected this week ; Gota investigate a Solar Charging panel now ; never ever had one before ; so first things first gota read this thread from the begining

Thanks for the Solar Panel suggestions already made

My installation thoughts are that I have x 1 Bilge Pump powered from the Main Engine system battery

A second Bilge Pump powered from a Solar Panel

This installation will I hope overcome the reliance on just x 1 bilge Pump plus x 1 battery , which upon investigation it appears that the sheer amount of rain pooped into myBoat over whelmed the system , causing a flooded boat

Hi I embarked on my re installation of a Bilge Pump , plus replaced the Leisure /Marine battery ; Well this battery has dual posts fitted , thats 2 x Poss and 2 X Neg ; the Poss and the Neg have a threaded post , I thought it would be 8 mm but its NOT , at a guess it could be a 5/16 but whats the thread type ? A 8 nut mm will only partly thread onto the threaded post ,before locking up tightly , so its NOT a mm thread sze ; so if its a 5/16 is it Whit or BSF or what ?

Anybody know what the actual thread is ? my thought are its either a Whit or a BSF thread

Many thankls (oh tried googling but so far not no help , only info is its either a 5/16

I don't know the thread, but these are obviously not metric. Over the years, I've purchased a number of Marine batteries comparable to this one, and each time, nuts were included. It would be wise to get in contact with the battery provider once again because the nuts have to be supplied.
