I knew Lew Walker. He was a lovely man with a huge sense of humour. His funeral was a massive event.

He and his brother had a chandlery off the Broadway. Their dinghies were the best.

I fear that if you visit the old Town in the summer you will be sorely disapointed, it has become chav city where hordes of people come down from the smoke & the foreshore is covered in broken glasses & garbage raining from the Peterboat beer garden, PWC's churn the water & drug dealing is rife. But leigh on Sea was always full on warm weekends. They were the losers who could not quite make it to Sarfend from the east end. So nothing new there

Yep I owned a 10ft one for a few years , found it to be a really usefull Dinghy ; was stable but easily rowed single handed , the broad flat bottom hull design was very practice in regular uses

That is very sad. I Did notice in the bogs there was a sharps bin. Will still give it a look as in the area every month for a while

I think that you should go, so that you have a better appreciation of how the less fortunate in our community manage to survive on so little.

Monday to Friday is Pensionerland in Old Leigh and probably everywhere else now .

They only do drugs via the NHS and always take their glasses back. They are all in bed by 9pm.

The only reason to drive through Benfleet is to get over the bridge to Canvey Island where Dauntless chandlers are situated ( next to Benfleet YC).

And then, if you've got your passport with you , dash onwards to Island YC, also pretty nice.
