I'm looking for some simple round led interior lights to replace the original domed glass ones. They need to be about 3.5" dia . Have searched and searched on Google but not found anything suitable. Ideal price around £10.
Anyone found anything suitable?
 
Have you considered replacing the existing bulb with LED's

I have replaced the tubes in some of my 12V fluorescent lights with strips of LED's, some worm white, some cold white, some red and some combined.

Unfortunately, the existing units are completely shot and will have to be replaced.
 
Over the winter I fitted a low profile overhead LED saloon light, roughly 3.5-4" dia overall, white centre with a ' brass ' plastic outer about 3/4" wide - as sold in many chandleries, around £30.

I thought it was going to be too bright and stark, in fact it's dim as **** and I've had to fit extras all over the place !

Might be ' seductive ' I suppose, but that's of little use I fear.
 
I've found that domestic leds give a very directional light so presumably need a good diffuser. Also, how many lumens do i need - the existing lights are 10 watt filaments.

LEDs give a very different light, I have changed half my lights to halogen and left the rest. It means when I am running on battery I can conserve power by just using halogens or have the others on with a warmer light if power isn't an issue.

I had halogen bulbs in my saloon lights. I replaced them with one of the G4H series from Bedazzled (http://www.bedazzled.uk.com/12v_LED_Bulb_Replacement.htm). I can't remember which ones as it was a few years ago, so the range has probably changed, but I bought 4, thinking I'd need two in each fitting, but one is plenty bright enough for food prep or reading and too much for chewing the fat over a glass of something pleasant. My warm white lights are good colour, somewhere between halogen and plain filament.

If your current lighting is adequate, then something like the G4H-6L would probably do. If it's a bit marginal, then maybe the 8L. In any case, I'd be tempted to get one and see how it does before committing to buying several.

The colour temperature is just right and the light output is amazing.

I own a lighting business and have access to the best quality lamps(Much better than those sold in chandlers), but when I wanted to replace my lights this is where I went. However for £10 you will get rubbish. The lights will last the life of your boat if you buy wisely, you can't need that many so buy some good ones and make sure you get warm white versions 2700K is best but some are only available on 3000K.
 
I replaced an old dome light with one of these. 4" might be a bit over the size you want but these are inexpensive and work fine. Maybe at only £10 they won't outlast your boat but they light up when you press the switch and are easy to install! These are a cold light but there are warm white versions available - at least so the website says. Cold light doesn't worry me as all I need is something that works.

The first problem is that many LED lights on offer are not powerful enough. In the house I have 9 watt GU10 lamps to replace the standard 50 watt halogen and am very pleased with the effect and power saving. Many people suggest 3 watts are enough but in my opinion they lie. In the van I use a variety of 3 watt G4 Halogen replacements depending on the fitting type though I am beginning to standardise on these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=301232977801 which give a point source light like the halogen G4. At present I have not found a suitable replacement for 20 watt halogens as most of the LEDs seem to max at 3 watt. Also watch out when buying MR11 LEDs, some have the G4 base and some G5.3 and the same applies to the fittings, though there are a few fittings that take either

If you don't have the depth to bury them flush in the headlining, you can make a small round plinth to mount them in.
Westerly did this on later boats for halogen down lighters which when the plinth was covered in headlining material looked very smart.

Sorry to have offended you, but my comment on many not being powerful enough was general. I would agree that for replacing most boat lights 3 watts is about right and if you had read past my first sentence you would have seen that 3 watts is what I my self suggest.

No offence taken and my apologies for misunderstanding your post. As you'll gather I am rather enthusiastic about the lights I recommended and for less than a fiver each delivered a bargain.
