I need a few lights down below.
Any recommendations?
Could do with a few slim lights to illuminate a general area, and a couple of spotlights for reading etc.

Some on ebay, but it would be nice to avoid anything that has steel parts.

Also thinking about a few battery LED 'cupboard lights'

There was a company exhibiting at the Southampton Boat Show, “hmsmarinesupplies.co.uk”. I succumbed to temptation and bought a combined red/white switchable strip light. I‘m very pleased with the quality and its performance. Will probably buy some more of their products as their prices are competitive and they have a good range on offer. All in my experience of course, as I have no connection with the company, other than as a satisfied customer.

I bought several lengths of LED strips on eBay a few years ago. after a while I ripped them out and bought some soft spotlights and some bright main lights from force 4. Many times the cost but much much nicer.

Just watch that you buy reasonably good quality ones as some can interfere with your VHF or standard FM radios.

Thanks @mikegunn I passed them at the SBS and did not get their details. I'm after a flexible red/white light for chart work.

Thanks, I'm really looking for LED lamp fittings, not replacement bulbs.
I think it's generally better to get something designed around LEDs, rather than a fixture designed for incandesant bulbs compromised by a LED 'bulb'.

Try Atenlighting.co.uk I've bought some LED strip lights from them, various lengths, cool or warm white and they do spots as well. Also used in our motorhome and under cabinet lighting in our kitchen (with a transformer) Excellent, good price and very good service.

I absolutely agree in principle, but finding said fittings is a much bigger job than replacing a bulb.

As a stopgap I've now tried 3 or 4 different type of LED replacement bulb, and have been very impressed by these ones - they are significantly brighter than any of the others, or the original 12v incandescents.

Thanks for that!
The aluminium profile which tapes LED tape lights looks useful, hadn't seen that before.

The boatlamps LEDs are brilliant.

Having replaced the various halogen bulbs in mine with LED I'd say it makes no difference. The LED ones will take the same LED modules such as G10 that other fittings do - the fitting is literally a metal ring with two wires connecting a socket. LEDs run cooler so there's no worry there at all. The only issue you may have is that LEDs need a consistent voltage so either fit a 12V-12V converter or accept that your LEDs will be quite bright.

Another plus for Aten lighting, I've used them numerous times now and their fittings are good quality. We have four, recessed, warm white units plus two, 1 metre, warm white strips behind the pelmets in the saloon on separate dimmer switches and a combination on warm/cool white, push switched recessed units in the galley and dinette.

Also thinking about a few battery LED 'cupboard lights' we've got some of them in our wardrobe. They're useless but we're only £1 for 4.

I used cheap replacement led bulbs from Amazon in my old brass fitting, I find them really good. I also fitted a working light (for 4x4 and diggers etc) from Amazon in the engine bay and it is fantastic it bounces off the white insulation and illuminates the place really well.

I have 3 of these left and am thinking about with fitting them in other areas for when I just need loads of light for looking for lost things...or doing some work...I am going to fit these on a new circuit switched centrally and ideally with the lights concealed ...(they are very bright but very little heat..I ran the one in the engine room for 36 hrs continuously and still not too hot to handle.)

I replaced my cabin lights with interior LEDs light units (ie not bulbs) that I got from ASAP at a very reasonable price. They have been great but the only point I would make is to think about whether you want warm or bright white light. I went for bright but in retrospect should have gone for a mix.
