I am looking into the options to leave my yacht ashore from May/Jun this year for around a year. I shall be abroad so keeping her ashore is preferable to being on a mooring or being afloat as I shall probably only get back once or twice in the year. Having previously lived around the Portsmouth area, I wondered what options are available in the area - preferably reasonably priced! Our yacht is an Oyster 406 - 40' and 2m draft. Many thanks

You don't say if you would require any services to be carried out to your boat while away . As Seajet says you might ask Chris at Gosport BY 02392586216 but he might not in market for long term resident as they do fill up in winter. Otherwise in addition to places mentioned Port Solent would be more convenient access if travelling by road but whether it meets criteria as to pricing might be debatable . Presumably given your absence security is another consideration?

If geographical location is not critical then consider Ridge Wharf on the river Frome at the top end of Poole Harbour. Quiet location and much cheaper than anything in the Solent with similar facilities.

iSailor says 15.6m clearance.

I thought it was less but I see you're right. Having said that my oceanlord (the single spreader, i.e. lower mast version) has an air draft about 17m and there's the VHF antenna on top of that. I don't imagine an Oyster 406's will be much less. My rational brain knows that as long as I'm not trying to pass under the lowest point of the catenary at the top of a spring tide with lower pressure and a significant wave height I'll be fine but my irrational brain probably won't let me relax while doing it.

Thanks chrishscorp - I'll look into that.

BTW air draft on an Oyster 406 is 18 m (including VHF). We're currently in the Netherlands where if you can get under the fixed bridges it is prefered rather than waiting for the opening ones. Despite knowing the air draft and there being dot matrix signs giving the actual clearance it is still squeaky bum time when the marked clearance is 18.2-18.5m.........

or Dell Quay Boatyard near Chichester, first come first served, nice people. Probably full at the moment but will free up in the next month or two.
