My problem with the wave was the locking mechanism for the blades. It locks in place by a small indent at the pivot point of the blade. If you hold it tightly in the wrong way it is all too easy to disengage the locking mechanism. I damn near took a finger off with it when I knocked the back of a blade opening a box.

The Gerber Suspension locks in place with two levers rither side of the handle which have to be pulled back to the end of therir slot to allow the blade to fold, pretty damn foolproof.

None of them. Much the best knife on board is the proper Admiralty pattern Seamans pocket knife with blade and marlin spike. If you want screwdrivers and plyers use screwdrivers and plyers.

Very nice but I want screwdriver, pliers, knife, bottle opener and saw a lot more often than I want marlin spike.

You compromise a little or your trousers fall down with all the weight.

I've a Gerber Crucial Corkscrew. It works well single handed. It has a corkscrew, important for those wine bottles as well as a knife, screwdrivers and pliers. Keeping the blade sharp also isn't too difficult.

I have leatherman tools and on the whole they just haven't felt as nice to handle and often take two hands to change their configuration. I tend to want a hand on the deck and a hand on the tool.
