I couldn't understand why none of the local Yotties would speak to me. We have a Fairline Turbo 36 but try to be considerate in confined waters. I always warn my neighbours when we are about to engage the smoke machines. But it was to no avail.

Recently a fellow boater explained the problem, I had the learn the sailors lingo.

After many fruitless attempts to understand what he was trying to teach he finally managed to train me in this subtle art. This is what he said.

"What do you breathe"? he asked.

"Air" I replied, confused.

"What do you use a comb on"? he questioned.

"Hair" I said.

"Where does a fox live"? he asked.

"In a lair" I offered.

"Now put then all together and what do you get"?

So I tried it "Air Hair Lair"

"Thats it" I cried, I had it. No more cold shoulder treatment and black looks. I can now pass the time with the best of them.

Gin and tonic anyone.
