Leaking Diesel

The diesel tank on my Beneteau Furst 285 is located in the top of the wet locker - between the heads and the cockpit.

Have tried to cure this problem before but having filled up and gone sailing in a breeze this weekend (and therefore heeling quite a bit) I get a load of diesel coming through the wet locker and into the heads.

Did have a company take quick look at the problem but although they muttered something about tightening the feeding tube from the deck - problem is still there. I cant feel any wetness on top of the tank - it's extremely difficult to get any kind of access to the tank so only possible to take a look at the top of the tank with a mirror which I have yet to do.

Am I right in presuming that there is a breathing hole for the tank - and perhaps the diesel is spilling from here when the boat is heeled?

I know the obvious answer is don't fill the tank so full - but surely it shouldn't happen?

I think You should have the following connections to the tank:
A) filling tube from deck, usually 1" black pipe,
B) feeding tube from bottom (almost) of tank to engine (1/2" or less)
C) return fuel pipe from engine to tank (more or less like feeding)
D) tank venting tube from tank top to any high place (in my boat it runs to the inside of one of the pushpit stanchions).
Check one by one.

You may not have a fuel return pipe going into the tank some engines have the fuel return pipe going back into the tank side of the secondry filter.
