\'Lead Putty\'

Hi,
Having built cars, full size & models of all kinds, now rebuilding a 18ft double ender. I know nowt about boats!
I want to replace the caulking cotton and putty which fills the seam on each side of the stem / keel. I have ordinary putty from B & Q and a tin of lead powder, which apparently must be mixed to keep the putty pliable? Question is, in what proportion does the lead get mixed with the putty?

All responses appreciated
regards,
Stu Knowles

2 ozs of red lead powder to one pound of chopped up glazing putty. Add raw linseed oil to maintain original consistency.
