LCD TV bargain

I've just bought a 15 inch LCD TV for the boat from Sainsbury's for £199. It's made by Digix ( can't say I've heard of them), but the picture is good and it also has a 12V input and can be used as a PC monitor as well.

Just thought people might like to know.

I'd love to get an LCD TV (almost asked Santa for one) but I'm afraid the picture won't match my old CRT yet. I'm waiting for someone to reassure me /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

All a matter of opinion but IMO decent Flat screens have better picture than CRT,I replaced Sony CRT TV with Samsung LCD,Picture much better.Caveats....only compared using Digital input,and only 17" screen.I will report further after the sales when I plan to upgrade to to 22/23".(Its an age thing I can't read the text on the smaller screen/forums/images/icons/smile.gif)

I saw them - I couldn't see anything on the box to say how many amps it would need at 12v. Have you measured it?

I'd want it for displaying the pic from an underwater TV - does it have a "video in" (I think the box said it had so it should do my job).

It has everything in- S video, scart, coax, PC link, phono.

12V and draws 2.5A.

The picure is really rather good- better than the 15 inch CRT I have and takes up far less space.

You may well find that the TV has a multifunction tuner supporting SECAM as well as PAL, meaning that you can use it in France. Can be useful

Just to make it clear, I bought this TV for the boat so wasn't looking for the same quality as I'd want at home. The sound is a bit tinny, the picture is better than average, but whatever, it's very good value and will mount beautifully against the wall in my saloon on the boat.

Prices of LCD Tvs are moving down quite rapidly; you can now get a 17 or even 19" set for the same price as a 15" was in the early part of the year.

Thus said do get one from Sainsbugs as the can do with all the help they can get at the moment!

careful on 12V input

Last year I bought a similar equipment for boat usage (both as a TV and as a secondary monitor of the laptop).
Luckily, I spoke with an installer of boating equipment before connecting it.
He told me that a tension stabilizer was absolutely necessary, because also the small voltage deviations which you have on the 12V circuit when the batteries are under charge (either by the engine/alternator or by 220V charger) can seriously damage or even destroy the LCD.
He might have said that just to sell something, but I gave him just 10 € or so for the stabilizer, and he has a very good reputation. I tend to believe that he had good reasons for his recommendation.
I'm not going to try the direct connection without the stabilizer, anyway...
...it's a 17" with TV tuner, and I spent some good money for it! /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
