First pop rivet four eye straps to the bottom of the boom . . .

Or better still pop rivet four pairs of eye straps on the boom, one of each pair either side of the boom, so you don't get scalped by projecting fittings under the boom.
 
I added lazy jacks last weekend in a rather unconventional way as an experiment.

I happened to have quite a lot of strong 8mm bungee cord. I used that to run three straight line loops under and along the boom and up to a point on the topping lift about 1 metre below the mast. It took about an hour to do and cost a few pounds. Seems to work rather well. I was concerned that the bungee would bow outwards and not guide the sail down effectively but that was not the case in 10knots of wind last week. I will try it in stronger winds when I get the chance but initial signs are positive.
