Laying mooring buoys finnish style

I saw these pictures on a Helsinki sailing club web site.

It seems like a practical use of the local conditions to easily lay the mooringbuoys needed for the "bows to" moorings which are common around here. Just drive them onto the ice, put them in roughly the right place and let the spring sun do the rest!

Good idea but I suspect that lifting them isn't quite so easy ... better get that done in time when autumn comes.

I laid my mooring bouy almost the same way last year.
As mine was not in a sheltered area, a hole was cut through the ice first (using a chain-saw and "ice-pick"!) for the anchor weight so that it really went in the right place.
Otherwise it's possible that when the ice starts to break up and melt in the spring, the piece of ice with the bouy and anchor could end up somewhere else...!

Correct and yes...
But mine isn't the big red one in Helsinki!
Mine's the little white GT-Kryssare in Tampere on a very different register... :)
