On a serious note though:
I don't think Ipswich is a goer for some of us Crouchites because it already takes me 7 hours to get up to Shotley and Ipswich is quite a bit further on. And some Crouchites are further away than that. I only suggested Brightlingsea because it just seems more central.

I don't mean to sound stroppy, because I will happily try to coordinate the event whatever people want, but I do feel that it's an impossibility to please everyone. Noone will be treading on my toes if someone else wants to try!

Yes, I hadnt thought of the extra hour up From shotley....

But if we do settle on the Orwell, it would be my preference for choice of venues and accommodation.

Well done Lisa, for your original offer. I've watched this unfolding (unravelling?) with some disquiet. It's like herding cats, isn't it?:rolleyes:

I haven't voted because we seem jinxed, and every time I sign up for an East Coast meet the Curse of Little Sister kicks in and something crops up to prevent us getting there. (Otherwise we'll try, wherever it is - but shush, don't tell anyone!)

Don't know how to break the logjam, though.

The Green Man can accomodate parties up to 40. And even if everyone who said on here that they could make it actually attendends, we still wouldn't be 40.

Firstly and most important point, I think in all walks of life where somebody volunteers to organise something, you either go, or you don't go, you don't criticise their efforts or try to change them unless you are yourself prepared to take on the organising. It is easy to complain from the sidelines and I would have thought there are actually a limited number of places that would take a booking for the numbers we are talking about when the number that actually turn up will be so heavily weather dependent. I also don't see anybody other than Lisa or Jim offering to organise this gathering.

Secondly, I think Lisa is right about Ipswich being just a tad too far for the Crouch boats, particularly the slower ones or those Fambridge based. HW Burnham is 11:30ish which means a long old slog and maybe not getting into Ipswich until 7pm. Personally I would prefer an early start and then being able to rest/socialise in the afternoon than arriving 1/2 hour before we are supposed to be heading out for a meal.

Thirdly I think the lack of response on this thread may be at least a little to do with the fact that people think that this is becoming a little of a farce, and that they will see where it ends up, and then sign up if they can make it. Not sure of the statistics from the past but I would imagine that particularly at this end of the year, people are reluctant to commit in advance if they would not be prepared to travel in 'orrible weather.
 
Didn't someone say that numbers were now limited at the Green Man?

The Moody Owners branch is holding their Laying Up at Bradwell Quay Yacht Club with a 3 course meal for £15. I have not yet received a menu and I don't know what maximum number they can take. I am assured there is a fully stocked bar.

Will try and find out what goes.

It has been the practice to alternate north and south. The tides that weekend might mean an early start for those heading south on Saturday but at least they get a late start going home the morning after. It's as broad as its long.

Just to let you all know, I'm tied up today but am meeting some other forumites this evening and we will have a conflab and come up with a plan. I will book somewhere tomorrow and announce it by c.o.b on Wednesday (hopefully).

(unless someone else does it in the meantime!) :D
 
I wonder what happened to my original suggestion of The Rose in Shotley on 27th October.

The tides that weekend are just about the same as 13th/14th.
As I said in the earlier post Sarah is on holiday before that so she can't take us on the 13th.

This also saves the long run up the Orwell for the Crouch/Blackwater boats.

If this is acceptable I would be happy to sort it out with Sareh and Shotley Marina.

okidoke, personally speaking, I'm happy for you to do that. I thought it was a no-goer because people seemed gee'd up for the 13th. Also personally speaking, I can't make it, but don't let that stop anyone! I really don't mind missing out. I hope to be in St Kats by then!

If the Orwell is considered the best bet..

And if the 13th is still the preferred date...

Then Ipswich haven marina can accommodate a large group of visiting yachts... But need to know who is coming..

the Quayside restaurant can also accommodate a group up to 60, and would provide a set menu for £25 per head.

So that is a option that is available.

The restuarant at the marina is already booked up.

Surely you would want to have some options to discuss?

If you had already had a preference then say so..

People making suggestions are just trying to be helpfull.

Well there is very little other choice on the Orwell for decent grub....

Certainly Shotley is a no no on those dates...

If bradwell has already been decided.. Then why the poll and why did Lisa say she would be ok with that?

The whole thing is bizarre...

People shouldn't ask for input if in fact they don't want it.
