Latest La Vagabond dragging anchor situation

Yes that was a tragic episode of delos when she left! Delos is the only one that seems to keep my interest.
Some one else on here pointed us to Barry Perrins, old sea dog (I notice in last nights episode hes dropped the old!) Quirky but very watchable. White Spot Pirates, excellent german girl who can do repairs that some of us could only dream of. Rick Moore, allegedly was the one that inspired Delos. Sailing Bora Bora, a journey that we have done. Sailing Nandji, a very young Oz couple on a fast learning curve , another La Vaga judging by their Patreon numbers shooting up.
All excellent stuff to while away the winters evenings!

They may end up with a whopping bill from the fishing boat they said the coastguard had sent and probably should as they needed rescuing too.

Bouying and releasing the anchor chain after a tangle is the well rehearsed tactic so why they didn't do this quickly I don't know. That way they regain control and could aid the other boat. Plain strange and very dangerous for a situation which is far from being unusual (although the distance they covered being chained together was).

Couldn't agree more.. if this incident occurred in a Scottish anchorage , then nobody is getting in the water. Bouy and release the rig, take the other boat in tow quickly while still in relative lee. Any Med based cruising yacht should have a kedge and a spare anchor.

On the subject of Youtube sailing channels, my shared opinion with a lot of fellow sailors I speak to is they are starting to saturate an increasingly disinterested audience. I have been a 'Patreon' and donated money in the past but I've grown a bit cynical of the aforementioned 'bikini' nonsense. I now give any youtube suggested video links with a bikini clad click bait female on the title screen a swerve.

But, they spotted the opportunity, are doing something right! A lot of people are payng them a lot of dosh! Market forces always prevail!
And by the way, anyone who thinks that making those "home movies" is easy needs to try it. Its serious hard work and takes a lot of time, trust me, Ive tried it. One of them, Delos I think, did give some stats once on how many hours of filming and hours of editing goes in to an episode. I know Ive seen Karin painstakingly moving a model of their boat across a chart with a camera taking a shot at a time to do an animation of their journey, lots of time to produce a few secs of episode time. Home movies, in the case of the market leaders it is not!

First class response.

I've been a Delos fan for ages, they're actually in Recife at the moment so rather hoping to bump into them in a couple of weeks, and it's been interesting to see how their videos and content have developed over the years. All credit to them for producing just the right amount of soap/reality with the various onboard relationships etc and the facts and history around the various places they visit. Dylan was brilliant at the later, but apart from the few episodes where he had family on board you always felt his films were about the locations rather than the people involved and I think you need a little bit of the personal touch to keep viewers engaged.

La Vaga definitely changed when they switched boats as they were no longer on this voyage of discovery but I'm not convinced it's lessened the appeal. The one other I watch regularly is RAN sailing, a Swedish couple who have made their way from the Baltic out to Columbia now. Just the two of them on board but a really nice balance between their personal trials and tribulations encountered on the trip and some epic filming of the places they visit.

I think that Delos upped their game when they took on that SA guy, Kiril? He was a media man and their productions certainly improved. It was interesting to see their Patreon payments going up and finally are above La Vaga as the guy worked his magic.

Abandon Comfort is one to keep an eye on imo.

Really decent, honest, genuine couple.

No flashing of bikini stuff although it could certainly be done, but they refrain.

Genuine; a bit like SV Delos without so many people and with very little money.

I am even thinking of becoming a patreon although I cannot afford to antifoul my own 22 foot boat (she just sails slowly).

AC doesn't really do it for me, they seem nice people, she's easy on the eye, he just bores me, but I'm not watching youtube for that. It doesn't seem like they've sail a huge amount (just using the boat as a cheaper was of living) but possibly in the future. I unsubscribed on my last youtube cull.

The latest La Vaga was a good one, Riley filming and editing has an original early days feel to it. Riley has the sailors eye, Elayna is pushing for the popular personal type blog.

They took on that American to do the filming and editing, my belief is that he wasnt up to it. Just waiting for Corra to finish then Youtube here we come!

Horses for courses of course.

They have not been able to sail yet owing to hurricane season.

I think this couple have the unique selling point in that:

1) They will be showing a boat re-fit. (I mean a HR for $20k ? It is going to need some work).

2) Whilst Ryan was in the coastguard, I don't think he has a lot of sailing experience and few channels (Riley had a fair bit of experience by the time the sheila joined him) have shown true beginners living aboard and learning whilst travelling.

3) Their transparency with finances is great.

4)They have (to me) a rarely seen decency and honesty about them (yes, Riley has that too).

5) They have both finished university and given up very good professions and sold all their belongings ( Ryan was a Investment Rep. and one time successful pro poker player) - Kelsey was in an Advertising Agency as an Account Executive and good at it )to lead a simpler and hopefully happier life; simplicity - something many people could learn from - me included.

I am certainly looking forward to seeing their progress and togetherness. They certainly have not had as easy a start as others (imo).

More power to their elbow.

Easy to be an armchair expert, I know, but here is MHO as to a possible solution:

Cat skipper briefs Moboer, coils his remaining warp, cuts bitter end, buoys and throws overboard. Takes Mobo in tow to nearest sheltered water and anchors temporarily with a kedge; once secure, re-attemps dive to resolve. Oh...and...doesn't forget to go and retrieve his bower tackle once crisis is over...and make fast his bitter end!!! At the end of the day, I would recommend a stiff drink...
