I was bought up on an MTB, which I was given to understand was fast, but not as fast as this:

Having read further, I see that 55kts is a bit of an exaggeration by the Times, but it still makes interesting reading.

Kinda makes you wonder why we all have planing hulls! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Some of those design ideas were found in the early 20's and speed and sea keeping can be put together in one boat. Suppose it has to be down to cost of running as I bet they were thirsty buggers! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

They look great running at high speed with John Wayne in command in old movies though.

The same options are still available now.
If you want something that will run at high speeds in rough conditions, then just look at Hunton. Don't look for much living space tho. Same goes for Botnia Targa.

They won't be same as that size vessel, but both capable rough weather high speed machines, limited by size and weight.

If you want to pay for something that will run the same, you'll have to pay big money.

The Botnia doesn't quite have the looks, (looks like crap really) the Hunton's a planing hull, true? and Trev's new boat is mega bucks! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Reminds me of the fast minelayers HMS Manxman and Welshman which could exceed 40 kts. These were decent sized ships and not boats. I was serving in a cruiser in the Med and one day all hands were called to look at HMS Manxman coming up astern, reputedly doing over 40 knots. Very impressive [and not much time for the traditional potato fight between HM Ships meeting at sea].
