Lash-ups and hacks that get you home.

The fuse 20amp? and has protected the wire/component, your replacement would probably pass 100+ amp so the wireing goes up in smoke!!

Ok, not a get you home but still a tool for an essential job

anyone care to hazard a guess what it’s for?

It’s to change the calorifier heating element. An awkward job but hopefully a rare one. But it turned out to have a secondary use which is used more often

To remove the lid of the black water tank. By chance it’s the perfect fit

You can buy a heater element tool for €5 , yet you ruined a €25 pair of Stilsons .

Starting to get your “ Passerelle “ logic , took a while .:)
True, but I wanted to do the job that day and not wait for a parts delivery. I have lots of old cheap tools lying around ?

I spent a day in Torrevieja trying to get the tool. I had a photograph with dimensions and tried marine, electricians, plumbers and heating/ventilation suppliers. Nobody even recognised it or understood why I'd need one. Everyone just said they didn't use them and used Stilons or similar.

I gave up and discovered that a pair of large Mole grips worked when applied as an angle and a screwdriver used as a lever to turn the Mole grips. The element has a smaller nut than domestic units and sits deep inside a covering of insulation. I've used the same method several times now as it is easy now that I know how to angle the Mole grips.

What is wrong with one of these?
