Laser flare width ?

Yes, that sort of thing.

Not sure why you think it’s misleading? The MCA are saying known EVDS don’t meet any current specification laid down in SOLAS. It doesn’t matter if there a specific specification for EVDS or not.

:ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

It would have been far more clear, using the same amount of text, to say "SOLAS has not yet developed an eVDSD standard and thus no eVDSD can be approved under SOLAS." The official statement was more like saying "I understand you have not beaten your wife this week."

That does not make you special. You still have to comply with SOLAS.

And you can't spell Jesus.

No, I do not need to comply with Solas inside coastal waters. I also never implied that we should all get rid of flares and rely on an eVDSD as our sole means of summoning distress. That would be extremely foolish. You need layers of methods. I was only raising awarness of one more piece of kit that does have some level of regulatory recognition, can't hurt, and can help.

No, I didn't spell Jesus.

Come on, it's just a watercooler conversation.

Strangely enough I found my old 1970’s fire arms licence in a pile of papers the other day, it included the boats Very pistol on it, but we handed the pistol in back in early 90’s.

Really? Shipping and offshore yes, recreational coastal, no, and you know this. We both know this.

And all of that is completely off the point.
  • The US and Canada both have a standard for and accept approved eVDSDs.
  • For the rest of the world, this is just one more piece of kit. Perhaps better than lasers or flares because it is passive and long-endurance.
  • No one has suggested eVDSD as a sole means of distress signalling.
Enough of being trolled.

Strangely enough I found my old 1979’s fire arms licence in a pile of papers the other day, it included the boats Very pistol on it, but we handed the pistol in back in early 90’s.
Well, if your licence dates from 1979 and you didn't hand in your Very, (Littlewoods??), pistol until the early 1990s, it's no wonder.
