Anyone familiar with Largs marina near Glasgow. Friend of mine is there for two weeks and reckons its the dogs doodahs. We are going up on sunday hopefully and going out on the ocean waves, which will be quite exciting for us lakes boaters. Any comments on the cruising ground around that area or the marina itself etc.

I live only 5miles from Largs, Great place, Lovely marina, its one of my favorite haunts for Eating out and walking the dog, The chandlery was voted Chandlery of the Year this year, Boats sales is pretty good too with DDZ, Prossers and Euroyachts, In fact there is a boat show there next month.
We did our PB2 training out in the Clyde from there, Cruising possiblities are endless.
Easy to get to Rothesay, Cumbrae, Arran and even a lovely sail round to Tarbet Loch Fyne.
The RYA cruising club do Largs to Ireland cruises ever year, I really fancy that.
Make sure you have your Bins and camera with you as Porpoises and Basking Sharks are often spotted.

Lovely place and i'm sure you'll like it.

I'm away to ponder why my boat is in LL and not at Largs/forums/images/icons/crazy.gif.

Lovely place if the weather is good, but plenty of cover, from winds, the Cumbria's are opposite you and the Island of Arran will no doubt call you over, I could go on all day, we have fished it from Largs with a Pilot 590, and cruised it from Loch Goil in a hired Broom The Clyde estuary is beautiful, and you cannot fail to enjoy it, and who knows it may even drag you away from being landlocked.

great place, used to go there often in my (dare I mention), sailing days. Has grwon a lot recently and now has a posh residential development next to it but the houses are not peering str8 onto you like Ocean Village etc. It always seems very relaxed up there to me which can only be a good thing, that and raggies and stink pots get on well!

I still drive up every time a go to visit the family in Scotland, the used boat shows up there are normaly good to...hmm, when is this years as I am going to be up visiting the frst 2 weeks in October!! God 2 weeks away from the boat, I am not giong to cope, will def have to go to largs and maybe even drive past Loch Lomond!

I think you be mistakeing Largs for Inverkip Marina, Largs doesn't have a residential development nearby, where as Inverkip is still building a new Village round their marina.
The Largs, Troon, Inverkip and Rhu Marina boat shows are all on, on the Same weekend. 15th, 16, 17th of October.

You aint got time for cavorting around in Scotland go and get that radio fitted.
I would however be very interested to know about the area as I and SWMBO are hoping to do a long cruise to Glasgow from Thames Estuary next summer to see the grandchildren and hopefully take them out on our boat for the first time. They live in Glasgow so might stay for a while.
Have a good weekend Ian

Yes, it is.
I'm not exactly sure, but there are only a few places on the Clyde that sell Petrol, And i know that Largs is one of them, Not sure where the others are.

Hi Ian,

Has Ian moved his boat there? I noticed it was missing when I was up last weekend.

Yep booked visitor berth for two weeks, then it depends how much he likes it as to if he comes back. By the way George (next to Ian) has new boat arriving on Friday. Bought would you beleive from Largs, nearly new 285 command bridge. Very nice lots of extras apparently.
