Thought so, Tis funny, I was on the pontoons last Saturday night looking at a Rinker for sale, and just happen to see it on the passing.
Its funny how those registration no.s are a dead giveaway./forums/images/icons/laugh.gif/forums/images/icons/wink.gif

And they are a pig to remove !.

We seriously considered moving up there when leaving Windermere, it must be one of the most beautiful cruising grounds anywhere - the guy that looks after our IT systems keeps his Sealine 365 up there and loves it.

The big minus's were lack of petrol refuelling points away from the Clyde marinas which would restrict where we could get too, the travelling time from York and the weather. The pluses were the scenery and the people - not sure my liver would have withstood normal levels of scottish hospitality though.

Re: Largs marina Roy

I haven't made any hard and fast plans yet as SWMBO and I are doing a pilotage correspondence course at the moment so as to stop at as many places as possible on the way. Expect June/July sometime will have 3 or 4 weeks so should be plenty of time to have fun. Have to learn overnight anchorage yet, never done it before.
Boats out having lots done and back in in March I hope.

Ian,
Just on my way home and passed a low loader carrying a Bayliner 285 Command bridge, Probably the one your mate George is having delivered tomorrow.
I presume he bought it from Prossers at Largs. Looked like the name was something like 'Silver Dream'.

Probably the best placed marina on the Clyde for good protected cruising waters. I stay in its sister marina at Troon. Great chandlery and very good facilities. The local Largs sailing club now in a magnificant building on site, a good place for a pint or two with fab views across to the big Cumbrae. Beware in an east wind as the katabatic or is it anabatic wind whistles down off the high ground making for gale force winds in the marina!!! Also some of the pontoons quite short and distance between quite tight...we are spoiled here at Troon with loads of space.

Enjoy your stay in Scotland....Paul.

Hi Ian,

Could you do me a favour and ask him the name of the garage he gets his Range Rover serviced at in Boroughbridge. I have been meaning to ask him for about a month now. I need to get my Discovery serviced and thinking of using the same people because he recommended them.

Cheers,

Is George having to pay a premiem to put the Bayliner on the jetties, have heard of £1k or more before today for a boat not bought throught them

Ye'll be disappointed if you're looking for ocean waves. Ra clyde is a nae mair than a big lake wi jest a wee bit o tidal drift in some places.

Jeez Paul, where are you berthed? "we are spoiled here at Troon with loads of space."???????

I have had to develop the skill of doing 3 point turns in cross winds to get into my berth without removing gel coat from my (fat) neighbour or myself on the finger.

Chappie across teh fairway mounted davits on the back of his stinkie and has reduced the fairway width by a good 10% just where I need to start my turn.

Don't be telling everyone we have lots of space else they will all want some of it and then we will have none left, just like the solent.

Re: Largs marina report

Well it was a lovely marina, great breakfast in one of the three bar/retaurants to start the day off. Excelent facilities including boat sales and chandlers, nice spacious and well laid out berths. Unfortunatly we did not get further than the marina due to high winds which was a bit disapointing but I think our captain is still a little dubious about offshore sailing having only been used to lakes so far, still I dont blame him. It took me three and a quarter hours to get there and more to get back due to traffic, so I wont be berthing there and enduring that kind of traveling every weekend, still I am looking forward to a few weekend visits per year to see our very good friends.
