Hi all. Has anyone ever used Lanoguard or similar products to protect the lower unit on an outboard motor? Mine sits about 3 inches into the water when tilted up to the max and the dealer said this is as far as it will go up.
My concern is that the front part of the lower unit is well below the anode on the cavitation plate and I am not sure if the handle bar anode that sits on the mounting plate will protect the lower unit, not to mention the constant growth I get even in winter, therefore I though that perhaps a light coating will protect against galvanic corrosion, growth, etc.
Cheers

Cheers for that. Was aware of the brand for the automotive industry but never for marine applications.
Will have a look at the products now.

Invent something you can apply out of at tube, which prevents galvanic corrosion and the marine world will be beating a path to your door ?

Wouldn’t that be something? On my previous boat, I had a VP engine and outdrive fitted with a Volvo branded galvanic isolator that worked flawlessly year after year and back then I was based in salt water. No corrosion whatsoever and the anodes lasted the whole season without issues. My current boat is spanking brand new but does not have an isolator fitted (I can’t see one on the boat or the owners manual)
I can live with the algae growth and possibly limescale or mineral deposits on the part of the lower unit that is permanently underwater hence the thought of a chemical barrier to make it more difficult for algae or limescale to attach themselves but also I though a waterproof barrier could help shield the submerged part from everything else.

You seem to have 2 desirata. Corrosion protection and antifouling. Id expect lanolin to do some good re corrosion (though I personally would probably try sunflower oil) and no good, (and quite probably some harm) for the latter.

Can’t blame a guy for trying to kill two birds with one stone 😉😂
The Dynax looks promising so I will give that one a try when the boat comes out of the water. I have also seen some GI that you just plug to your shore line and there are good reviews too, so I reckon that with these two things I will be sorted.
Thank you all.👍
