Thank you Bambola - and all the other posters. Given me the incentive to pick up my Michel Thomas Spanich CDs. If you haven't tried this chap you should (see eBay, Amazon & elsewhere) - all aural but quite remarkable.

One way to while away those wet dark British evenings !

Re: French manners

Thank you to all posters. You confirmed what I suspected already. My French is reasonable (rusty A Level), so looks like spanish is next. BTW I've never experienced anything but freindliness from french people, even in Paris.

Norwegian or Swedish -- allows you to chat up tall blonde scandinavian types.. good for private convos too-- you can discuss people around tyou without them knowing.

Course once my ex and I were on holiday in SoF and some lads were commenting on her in Norwegian, and it was very satisfying to tell them to watch their mouths or we'd tell their parent what they were up to....

Si! Los ingleses tontos!!

The colonial types are the worst, that think they can shout in English and be understood, and the louder they shout the better!

Es mucho mejor apprender la lengua!!

Re: French manners

I used to be able to speak some french, but since living in Spain and speaking spanish half of the time, I can't speak french anymore. There are too many words the same or similar and as soon as I try to speak french I find myself speaking spanish. Be aware!!!.
