I'm not sure we shall ever change our boat at the rate we, in retirement, make decisions about capital outlays, but if we did, we would probably change from our 37ft Sea Ray Sundancer to a flybridge boat because of
-more interior space
-being able to sit up top at anchor to get a breeze here in the sub-tropics
One thing which bothers us is a ladder to the flybridge, which seems to us to be a hazard/nuisance when moving around underway. eg wife having to cater for my every whim - coffee, lunch, soft drinks etc - while I run the boat on autopilot.
What's the opinion of this learned panel on the pro's and cons of ladders vs steps?

A little test, try taking 2 G&T's and 2 glasses of the red of red wines up some steep steps and then try doing the same on a ladder up the side of your house....

For a sea version try the steps Pi**ed and the ladder sobber but get someone to shake it...

Steps. At rest, you can walk up them with both hands full of drinks. Underway with say 10% running angle, even steps are a bit tricky becuase they become closer to vertical, so ladders must be terrible. Best set up is 2x steps, one facing each way (the aft facing ones usually being inside the saloon). Underway, one set of steps is less steep due to the boat's running angle

Steps are safer cos' you have to hold on, a ladder you get lazy and trip up cos' there is no where to hang on to.

Bet he won't admit it, but was probably really old water - you know that stuff that's been left to rot in an oak barrel for 10 years. Up north, I think they call old rotten water whisky.
