La Trinite / Lorient

It looks as if I will be spending a weekend in the La Trinite sur mer / Lorient area soon. Not knowing anything about either city, can someone tell me -

Which would be prettier / nicer to stay in? I'll be travelling on my own, so would like a place I can walk around a bit and find a pleasant brasserie / restaurant.

Does anyone have any recommendations for inexpensive accomodation for a night?
 
agree la trinite is nicer, though rather small, the interesting part is basically the port area

when on the waterfront at la trinite, just walk along the shore towards the sea, there is a very nice "sentier cotier" along the river up to the sea

excellent seafood at the restaurant "le quai" on the waterfront /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
 
La Trinite is the home for a fleet of ocean racing trimarans. Definitely worth seeing. But I would recommend staying at Vannes rather than l'Orient or la Trinite.
 
Lorient is not a nice town she was completly destoyed during WW 2.At the moment La Trinite is quite empty because they change the pontoon but Auray just close to La Trinite is and old pretty town as Vannes and the Golfe du Morbihan with Arradon,Conleau,Larmor Baden,Le Bono.Enjoy it
 
Having stopped in both, I would give La Trinite the vote. Lively town, shops and a good bakery close to the marina, good market ( can't remember the days) and you can take "Le P'tit Train" ( the tourist road train) to see the standing stones at Carnac,

Lorient is not quite so charming but the town has some good eating places. The marina is pretty close to the centre and has good facilities, although you have to cross the road to get to the showers. Handy for rail / air connections. Tourist attractions include the U-boat pens.
 
la trinite. Plus a small hotel on the front is very nice. Walk along the front away from the yacht club towards the bridge and just after the main shops finish there is a nice hotel. Quite reasonable as well.
 
Any idea of the name of the hotel? Or recommendations in Vannes? I am a bit reluctant to get on the plane on a Friday night without knowing where I am going to lay my head in a few hours.

This is a boat visiting trip, so I'll be going to both La Trinite and Lorient, probably with a little "evening time" to myself to stroll around and enjoy a nice meal.
 
I went on the off chance a few months back, with no accomadation booked not really knowing where i would end up. I stayed in a hotel in vanne. i stayed in a no thrills place just opposite the last lock as you go up the river it was on a roundabout next to the golf club it was part of a big chain (edit... it was called Mercure Vannes Aquarium). their was also one i looked at in the main square above a resturant called hotel la marina. I also stayed in la foret.

Glad i did not book I found that there was a tourist information place in most towns that would direct me to a few hotels at the end of the day. most big chains were open 24 hours to book in.
 
And what if I arrive at 10 or 11 pm? Do you reckon I will have as much luck as you? Or will everything be locked down for the night (unless with a reservation)?

We've stayed at La Marebaudiere, about ten minutes' walk from the Waterfront in Vannes. Nothing spectacular, but it's quiet and comfortable. Reasonably bon marché as well. Vannes is a popular tourist destination in the holidays; we went in August and wouldn't have dreamed of not booking, but we had our kids with us, so sleeping on park benches was out /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. Lots of nice restaurants in the Town - wander round until you see one you like the look of.

I think this is the one, the restaurant isn't bad, haven't stayed at the hotel though.

You could try www.hotel-alicia.com in Le Bono, just south of Aurey and therefore closer to your targets. We stayed there in Oct and it was quite pleasant, OK restaurent if needed. about 65 euro/night. Bear in mind it is way out of season, so most places will be closed.

Bu++er, just checked my link and it is closed till 8/feb. There are several in La trinite and a few road houses on the way. The annual holiday is a prob right now.

That's the one. Stayed in it with the family a couple of years ago for a couple of days. Pretty good really, much beter than you would expect for a 2 star. Didn't eat there as we took advantage of some of the very good places in the town.
 
I think that you will find La Trinite fairly dead at this time of year. In the summer it would get my vote, but we have friends in Larmour Plage near L'Orient which makes me biased towards liking both places. Are you going to hire a car? If you need local connections, send me a pm as we have friends in both places.
 
well, you mentioned lorient and trinite sur mer and then came plenty of suggestions for other places /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif all worthwhile imho, especially Vannes and Le Bono
Le Bono is really a small brittany village, if you go there try and find the graveyard, Moitessier is buried there and its tomb has something in common to, say, Jim Morrison's one in Pere Lachaise in paris, people come, leave a message, flower, cobble, whatever, then walk away
 
also, if you will be travelling by car from lorient to trinite or vice versa, stop to ***St. Cado***, near Belz and Etel villages

you may spend 10 minutes or 10 hours there, but I am sure you will not regret it

Easily found.
Head East over the Riviere Bono. 2nd exit on the 1st roundabout, 2nd exit on the 2nd roundabout. @100 metres on the right. Moitessier's grave is at the extreme right rear corner. Well worth a visit.
