I cannot find any up to date info on line as to the pontoons at Kyle, are they there or not etc.?

Anyone know?

Cheers, more a case of possibly stopping for diesel, so I’ll just call the harbour master and go to the fuel pier.

Real shame what has happened between the Kyle pontoons and the Kyleakin pontoon which has been taken over by locals completely despite the funding being to provide visitor berths as well.

There is one pontoon, inside available and about 2/3 of outside, or there was on Monday. As Dunedin says uncomfortable in westerlies (though it was more SW) to the point I didn't even load water, just tied up for 5 minutes then scarpered. Always seems fully occupied from mid-afternoon on but there are other options.

We were there a month ago. The pontoons are there, but no electricity. And they're closed on certain wind conditions.

Not sure how the services are, we decided to just do a quick grocery run and continue on our way.

On a similar vein, has anyone got any info on whether the moorings to the west of the pontoons in the bay are either there or serviced? We stopped there last year on a windless night but could not see or find any tags.

Didn't check the tags, but we stayed in them overnight without any issues with a 7t boat. Wind was ~20kt from west and it was surprisingly calm there.

The moorings  looked like they were in pretty good shape, not much growth etc.

Not certain but somebody had been told that the moorings had NOT been serviced this year, and may be removed next year.
Don’t know if accurate but might be a risk if don’t get positive confirmation that checked.

As an update and after getting the low down from a good source, stopped for diesel and as always the friendliest harbour masters around.

The Kyle and Kyleakin pontoons are now back in Highland Council control and managed by the harbour master. There is still the issue on the Kyleakin pontoon with small local and fishing boats taking up most spaces but rafting should be possible.

As to the moorings the the west, they are not maintained and the person I spoke to would not leave a dinghy on them!
