Just bought two Kru Sport Pro LJs to replace our ancient Crewsavers. Nice design, but can someone please explain what the 'light attachment patch' is and how one would go about attaching a light to it?

Glad to hear that I am not the only one searching for "the patch". I thought at the price I was getting a light included!

Webby, would you like me to investigate this one further with the supplier? ;)

EDIT: Already done it - I am told that the "Light attachment patch" is a Blue or Black band which can be found on the inside of the cover when opened up - it would appear this is where you attach the light
Cheers

That doesn't make much sense. The cover closure is a continuous zip. Attaching a light to a point inside the cover seems nonsensical. And - a 'band' isn't a 'patch'.

Any chance of pictures or a diagram?

I can't see how a light can be attached to any part other than onto the bladder itself.
If the attachement was on the inside of the cover it would be obscured by the inflated LJ.

I have some of these LJ's (best I have ever had or work BTW) and had to attach the light, from memory the light it attached to the bladder so when inflated the light can be seen/used.

Without going down to the boat and pulling one apart I can't help any more than that I'm afraid.

Hi Webby,

I think Pete has it there, as in the band is inside the cover and is freed on the lifejacket inflating - unfortunately I don't have a diagram, pictures etc, as my tutorial was from the supplier explaining the system to me, though I was told "Oh, now it depends which batch" before he launched into that.

I will endeavour to see if I can find something for you. No KRU's in stock at the moment or i'd go down and do the usual Mk1 Eyeball check!

Cheers

Nik

Right, managed to find a Manual one that we have in stock and opened it up - I think I see what the supplier was getting at.

When the cover is unzipped the bladder is held in place within the cover by two "patches" of fabric which form a bridge between the front and rear of the cover, one on the left side, one on the right.

I assume it is feasible that a Lifejacket light could be attached to these, as they will surround the bladder on inflation "Armband" style at around upper shoulder height.

I took a picture, but I can't upload it anywhere just yet to get it on here, standby! :)

Ok Done

Brilliant, thanks Fishy . . . not obvious, but look as though it will work. What sort of light would best clip in that position and how, do you reckon?

I've got an AquaSpec AQ02 (65mm x 30mm x 45mm) on mine - it's a pretty tight fit to close the bladder cover over it and I've never been 100% happy with it as the clip is about 1" or so but the band is 2" wide. It means the band has been folded concertina-style to fit through the clip. There's an AQ98 listed on their site now which has dimensions of 50mm x 25mm x 35mm. It will still have the same problem of the clip being small but the extra cm off the width and depth means I'll probably nip in to Force 4 or Piplers and get one of them. That difference should mean it'll fit inside a lot more comfortably. If anyone has any knowledge (rather than opinions - I've already got plenty of them myself) on whether or not it's OK to concertina the band that holds the bladder in the cover I'd love to hear it.

Although I have used my Kru in "anger" I can't remember if those straps go tight. If they do could they break the light clip?

Morning,

UXB, cheers for the compliment, just making sure one of our customers is happy with his purchase! ;) (And, of course finding an excuse to be on the forums during work time! :p)

I'm thinking the same as Grumpy O G to be honest, the straps look very wide as far as fitting the AQ98 or UML Seaflash lights would be concerned and as they're the main bread-and-butter lights you'd get from most Chandlers they're the ones most likely to be fitted - I could see they might be frustrating to fit as you would need to "strangle" the strap to fit the clip and when the bladder is inflated underneath it there will be stretching as Allan picks up on there...if I get a moment today I might go down and see what the dimensions are like, though shortstaffed in the office today so I might not manage it.

The Spinlock Pylon light is an option, though pricey (But I love the gadgetyness of it.....) appears to attach to the bladder via a rubber(?) band as seen here.

I can't find Kru's website or I wopjld contact them direct to ask - anyone know?

Ther is a 'super deluxe' version of the Kru out now that includes a light (and AIS) and I think this uses the Spinlock pylon light.
