Where are the kiwis? Any one doing the Coastal Classic this weekend? Or anyone going to watch from a suitable vantage point?

All I'll see is the smidgin that manages to get to the TV news /forums/images/icons/frown.gif. You going or watching?

Instead, if sunny and warm, will be doing exciting things for the holiday weekend like pulling all the chain out of the locker and repainting the marks ( last Labour weekend it was so cold that paint still wasn't dry by Monday afternoon so had to take the heat gun to it).

Anyone interested can watch the progress of NZ's most famous yacht race (now the AC has gone) here:

www.coastalclassic.co.nz

Conditions are set to be lightish and line honours will probably be between the super-maxi Zana (now Konica Minolta) and the two big cats Sundreamer and X-factor. The fastest boats hope to in by midnight NZ time (so UK Friday lunchtime). And the rest dribbling in over the rest of the weekend.

Lion New Zealand is putting in an appearance for sentimental reasons (and with some paying punters onboard) but doesn't seriously stand a chance.

Re: See it here

She being a Wellington boat I'm plugging for Konica Minolta line honours - can't have Aucklanders winning their own race.

Re: See it here

well seeing as shes' the only 30m super-maxi in the race I'm not betting against you! Unless the wind starts to blow 50+kts from the North and whilst the rest of the fleet are cutting away broken rigs Lion New Zealand is just starting to get going! Unforntunately NZL40&41 aren't racing this year and under these light conditions they would have smoked it.

Re: See it here

Rather quiet from the UK end of the forum on this one

- sad example of parochialness /forums/images/icons/smile.gif, perhaps they need reminding that it is their drinking that sponsors the race (is sposored by a UK drinkies company).

Re: See it here

Whoops - I see they have changed the signpost sponser - maybe the UK forumites were not drinking enough to keep paying the bills.

Was previously the Lindauer Coastal Classic, Lindauer being Montana Wines, being in turn Allied Domecq (international but UK based).

Re: See it here

Just got back from an afternoon sail on Doubtless Bay. My mate and I am a bit rusty as I havent been out for a while. The wind still has a chill to it. I will check out the race shortly.

Re: See it here

Where is New Zealand exactly, and what was wrong with the old one?
I seem to recall that they had some America Cup racing there once.
