Planning on attending the RNLI rally in Kingston this weekend, just wondering how crowded it can get and whether or not there are any open wireless networks likely to be in range of likely mooring spots. Not got the mobile dongly things organised yet.

Hi Andrew, not sure how crowded the Rally will be, but Kingston is obviously pretty built up so there are likely to be a few networks around, that said it seems to me that people are more likely to secure their networks in built up areas because they have many close neighbours, all of whom are potentially weirdos piggy-backing their connections for nefarious purposes

You don't have to sign a massive contract for a dongly thing; I went into vodapone and bought one (for about £30-40 I think) which is a pay as you go kind of thing. It came with a GB, and it's about £15 a gig to top up. I used it quite a lot for email and a bit of surfing (here mainly) whilst away this summer, and I've only used up about two quid!

Quite often reverts to GPRS when u think u should be on 3g, and Windsor is a bit hit and miss for phone signals generally, but you should be a bit more relaxed on the boat anyway :)

Dohhhhh

of course looking at the date of your post the rally was probably last weekend so this is a bit late :o
