We are thinking of heading across to the new moorings in Kings Lynn for a couple of nights next month.

Has anyone been yet?

This will be the first time we have been up the Great Ouse so any help would be appreciated. We will be leaving from Boston.

Thanks in advance.

You will get much helpful advice on the Ouseabout forum board - www.ouseabout.co.uk
But aim to get to the Bulldog tide guage just after Low Water and start heading in when you get about 4m on the guage. There is one mooring buoy at the guage but it is good holding in the vicinity to anchor while you wait.

Do you intend to go up the river further than King's Lynn?

No we intend to have a couple of nights in Kings Lynn and then head back to Boston.

We will leave Boston a couple of hours before high water which is the earliest we can get out pushing the tide to tabs head.

ETA: In theory we can make it in the one tide.

In that case timing is much less of a problem as the new moorings are before the first bridge. The ebb runs very fast so not advisable to push against it but you won't have to worry about headroom at the bridges when coming up on the flood :)

The problem with going up to Denver is that you have to balance having enough water under you whilst having sufficient clearance on the bridges.

We are not going that far this time. Only have a four day break to get from Lincoln to Kings Lynn and back, if the weather plays ball of course.

We are reckoning on getting to Kings Lynn at about high water.
