The screen has gone weird on my kindle. Bottom half does show content but top displays the welcome screen and doesn't alter. I expect it's had one knock too many and is now a chuckaway as out of warranty. Worth asking in case anybody has a trick to sort it out?
Thanks for any tips.

Useless those Kindle things, because they can't be used to light the fire when you're finished reading them.

Quite annoying really, because the name does suggest they could be used as kindling.

You tried any of these?? I'd have a go at a reset and if that didn't work contact Amazon... let us know how it goes? :)

Tried the resets etc but no joy.
Contacted their support line who confirmed it's not rescuable and offered discount on a replacement. This time I went for the basic model and replacement cost just over £50.
They want the bust one back; makes sense to justify the discount. Will miss out on test as firewood though.
All the content will be auto transferred it seems.
It's been worth it for two years ( just about) but will try to remember to be a bit more careful in future.

...that's pretty good... well done them..... I'm guessing you don't have any non-Kindle/Amazon content on there you need to back up before you send it off??

No worries - just thought I'd put in a reminder.... :D

When you get going again - consider downloading a little PC application called Calibre - absolutely the dogs nadgers for handling Kindle content/backups/file conversion etcetc

Thanks for the link, Fantasie.
As it happens, I was trying to download summat from outside Amazon in a first brave attempt but it didn't go through. I'll look at Calibre and then go back and take the kindle by surprise
