Being a keen Solent sailor, I'm signed up to all the local notices, Lymington, Cowes, Southampton etc and of course Portsmouth. Not sure who's on duty today but there have been 27 KHM notices sent out today so far. All other sources enjoying a day off but the King's servants clearly busy in the Portsmouth telegraph office.

What you are reporting might be more accurately described as logorrhoea - an excessive flow of words.

I was intrigued by this one

the imposition of an exclusion zone of up to 250m radius around such warships.

../..

The exclusion zone will be activated by direction from KHM over VHF Channel 11 or 13 and indicated in the movements’ signal or by Local Notice to Mariners, if time permits. The warship for whom the zone is being activated will display two diamond shapes vertically disposed where best seen by day and show two flashing red lights at the masthead horizontally disposed by night. All escorting vessels will show a blue flashing light by day and by night. Escort personnel will be armed. The exclusion zone shall be based on a distance of 250m radius from the extremities of the vessel, or to the limits of navigable water, whichever is closer.

4. When the zone is activated, all vessels underway, except those involved in the escort or specifically authorised by the escort commander, are to remain clear of the exclusion zone.

5. Vessels which enter the exclusion zone will, after being warned by at least two of the following methods; radio, flashing light, and voice, be deemed to have the intention of committing a hostile act against the warship being escorted.

Better behave myself...

I find the men in black with guns instruct you fimly, but politely, to move well out of the way.
Same with the escorts of the nuclear submarines in the Clyde. There are also several routinely patrolled exclusion zones, where a yacht appearing can be the highlight of the MoD Police boat's day. I've been shadowed by one of those several times, but they never say or do anything s long as you don't enter the protected area. I sometimes thought they were interested in my late wife, who was Hong Kong Chinese!

I don't think they issue NTMs for escorts in the Solent, the sailors just walk into town and find them ?

I can also confirm that they do get out their guns if you breach the protection zone but politely remind you of the exclusion zone before firing. They also advise of the speed limit shortly after you notice the many men with guns.
