I saw a post on socials that Kemp sails is closing, does anyone know more or is this just gossip-mongering??

Hi all, Angus kemp here from Kemp sails. No we are fully operational in Wareham and will continue to serve the marine industry how ever we are sadly closing our sales and service office in Gostport. We will still be running our weekly van service to Gostport and further afield to help collect and drop off sails and other items to our customer base.

Regards
Angus kemp

thanks for clarifying!

Lovely sails made by Kemp and the loft continues as before.

Living a long way away from the sailmaker (Kemps) worked very well for us on a couple of occasions. We're in Cornwall.

My experience of Kemp Sails was very disappointing to say the least, terrible customer service and not willing to accept there was a problem with the way the inmast main had been made.
Fortunately another local sail maker Cruisader Sails in Poole made me a new sail , fitted and tested the operation , all worked beautifully with a great shape and has continued to do so for the last three seasons , great attitude and gave in confidence in the sail, so much so I bought a super code zero from them as well , another beautiful setting sail.
Sorry Kemps, you lost my confidence in your ability to resolve problems, confrontation is not a suitable resolution to managing problem.

Not my experience at all. I have bought a number of sails from them, and a stack-pack. Excellent kit, supplied after full consultation and agreement on size and design.

Pleased you had a good experience, it’s a measure of how good a company is when things sometimes go wrong, because they do from time to time. My experience and feelings are that Kemps failed me, to the extent it cost me £7k to resolve by having another sailed made by Cruisader Sails in Poole. Cheaper than taking Kemps to court which was the attitude I was presented with. Just saying
The other sail Kemps made , a Genoa is well made and sets beautifully, so for me it’s a 50:50 result.

With reference to a different thread (no pun intended), where I've sustained damage to a sail which was made by a different firm, the sail that I'm refitting to my GK24, is one that was made by Kemp sails, and gives me no reason to believe that it's an inferior sail, simply a more traditional material.

I haven’t used Kemp for new sails but did have inspection and new UV on my headsails and found them very helpful using the Gosport drop off facility. I had a comprehensive report and if considering a new sail would certainly seek their price/views. So far we have only had a chute where I went back to Peter S in Lymington as I had used him before . I have in past approached Crusader but found him too pushy -I rather like Peter’s approach in making time to deal the chute/furler etc in conjunction with the rigger .
