My good lady and I are off to Kefalonia for a week, starting 24th June.
As complete novices, we are keen to try a day sail on a boat bigger than our 17ft Shipmate Senior!!
Can anyone suggest where we need to go (if this type of sailing is available in Kefalonia) or are there any kind sailors who are reading this and are going out to Kefalonia, that would be willing to take us out for the day??
Or can anyone suggest websites that we can visit to organise such a trip? We are also keen dinghy sailers, so would also be happy to try out the greek dinghy sailing scene.
many thanks,
mike

Hi was in kefalonia last year on a flotilla one weeks sailing one week ashore this was in Fiskardo, second week I also wanted to have a day sail the only boat then avaliable was a 37ft cruiser /racer from a private berth holder it was very expensive.therefore I had no sailing the second week.
I think it will be hard for you to hire any boat as skipper if you are novices, I think Kefelonia is a wonderful place and Iam sure you will enjoy it happy holiday.

Hi ,

we are in Kefalonia and we have seen two companies that do this sort of thing. If you Google 'Seatrek' - which is one of them and the other is 'Ionian Blue' you should find them.

Ionian Blue definitely do days out including lunch for about 60 euros per head if I remember right.

Good sailing,

Sadcatowner, many thanks for reply, I have just had a reply from the Ionian Blue company who do charter by the day, but the boat they use for day sails is out on charter that week!! So that looks like its a "no sail" for us this holiday!! Still witing on a reply from Seatrek.
Gibbo, we don't want to actually sail the boats ourselves (well we do but just don't have the knowledge yet!!) so we're looking for a skippered day out, just to see if we get on with a bigger boat. We don't even know if either of us get seasick yet!! We just need to get out for a day to see if we like the whole affair and then if we decide we do, we'll book a flotilla holiday.
Can anyone advise if there are any dinghy sailing places in Kefalonia where we could even hire dinghies (both of us qualified RYA 1/2 dinghy sailors)
Thanks all.

Hello,
First time posting. My wife and I are off to Kefalonia 18-25th June (next week). She couldn't be persuaded for a whole week yacht charter, so I'm interested to know if anyone can suggest a place to hire dinghy or perhaps go far a day sail on a yacht? (I'm waiting to hear back regarding the companies suggested above)

Or, even better, if there is anyone sailing around this area currently that fancies some company for the day? (I have a Contessa 26 at home and day skipper etc so can hopefully be of some use, my wife not so much but is good company). Obviously happy to contribute, buy lunch and any costs to say thanks you.

Cheers,

Jack

This thread is 15yrs old....but you may be lucky...

Yes, I remember them, ice the size of house brick raining down.....
Its funny really, when we lived here we had surge protectors on most sockets, but we still got modems zapped and a laptop fried, most people have never experienced a really powerfull electrical storm the likes of Ionian ones, its different visiting as a tourist, i must be a bit sad, but i really enjoy watching one.:D

Fortunately I only suffered damage to the wind/speed on top of mast.
Yes I was 5yrs in Agean and some spectacular electric storms, but only lasted a few hours.
In Venezuela there are really continuous lightning flashing, I think the most in the world, not a place for the faint hearted.

It's a well-established spectator sport! On the other hand we had a thunderclap last Sunday the likes of which I've never heard before. There was an almighty bang which I suppose must have been a very nearby strike, and then a bit of reverberations afterwards.

Since only a few days before I had installed a TV aerial amplifier in the loft I rushed to see if it had been fried! Seems OK...
